I got them up last night. There's only a couple because it dawned on me that there were no pictures of the progress when there was only a couple crews left. There *hopefully* will be more of future weekends.

Well, at least there won't be a shortage of straight 30' logs.

Any plans to cut down real trees, or just those really long highports?

Some oaks were cut whose branches could be used for **** sticks. I imagine those'll be burned. I could be mistaken, but I think the upper "stack" is going to be 35' tall this year. So bonfire's gonna experience a growth spurt. It's gonna burn hot and fast, but it'll be a ton of fun to build.

I was about to say that:

(1) Those logs are perfect for making the inner wrap a little taller. Might even consider topping centerpole at 40' and placing the bottom of the outhouse at that height.

(assuming the PE approves it)

(2) Dried out pine burns sorta fast

Plus the trees get on the ground quicker.

Only issue is sap clogging up the saws. Thankfully there's designated downswingers to top the logs this year, so that should help that issue.

Yeah, but you can never tell what the condition of the logs will be. If we have a repeat of last year, I don't think we'll have to worry about 'em being dry.

Oh, and a couple questions about the pictures - how come there's so many of FHK? Where's Crocker? Where's Dunn? And Moore? And... I could go on.

And also - one tractor path looks the same as all the tractor paths. Don't you think 3 pictures is overkill?

Now I really can't wait to go to cut. After years of banging axes on oak, I'll feel like Superman cutting through that soft wood.

Hey, that's not just FHK. There are also the Clements, Mosher, and "Foreign Legion" people who are with FHK.

One other thought, and you should check with WillD before doing this, obviously.


Those long logs are really, really thin. Wiring them into stack one at a time will not exactly be efficient. It will take a lot of logs to fatten up stack.

You might want to consider making them into "trips" (three logs wired to each other, forming a bundle) before slamming them.


That would increase the productivity of the swings by a factor of three.
