I'd also like to make a formal apology to all the people at the Hall. I was promised that we'd light at 9 and I did what I could to get you there on time... then I find out that the county made us light it at 8:30.

My dad, who was a cop in Bryan for twenty years, had an interesting thought last night. The $500 is the maximum fine. His thinking was that it wouldn't shock him if they ended up being charged the minimum, whatever that is, given that nothing happened and the proceedings Friday ended up essentially being an exercise in CYA for the county. I for one hope he is right.

I will be shocked if they assess $500.00. My guess is about $100/per, give the preparations made.

That may have been different this year or last as I didn't really get to see it light either year as I was running around taking care of things.

I know the cops showed up again around midnight, blue lights flashing. We assumed they were there to write tickets for the perimeter fires.

We didnt get to help light it. I was assuming that you thought we were the ones lighting small fires, which we weren't.
