Do we have many homeschoolers here? I think we are heading that route with our 7 year old, but I can't decide on a cirriculum. I'm leaning towards starting with Master Books as they seem to follow a traditional grade level style of education, but I would love to hear what y'all have experienced.

Our family uses Kolbe Academy, which is a Catholic program. It is well rooted in tradition and we enjoy it. A Christian curriculum we have heard great things about is Classical Conversations. We have friends that have used it.

If you have any specific questions, I can ask my wife. She knows a lot more than I do.

Before the curriculum choice, I highly recommend finding local homeschooling groups. Get to know them and what they offer, then review their curriculum and see if you align.

Then join them. Homeschooling is wonderful, but these groups really help.

We (my wife mostly ha ha) have been homeschooling our now 10yo the last 4 years. She is plugged in and has in depth knowledge about a lot of curriculums out there. If you'd like a pretty detailed answer, you're welcome to send over any questions - general or specific at my username @ gmail. I will get it to her and get you something back.

To your OP, following a traditional grade level style is fine, but part of the greatness of homeschooling is diverging from the mainstream and really finding a great match between your kids so they excel. My 10yo likely reads at a 6/7th grade level and just started Algebra this fall. However he may be more in line with traditional 4th grade in other subjects or even behind in some that we haven't been focused on just yet.

I and others use Memorial press during covid when it wasn't clear when schools would be open.

Classical education and well done.

Depending on if you want a family experience, Highlands Latin is their more cottage school based program. There's at least one in Houston.

Thank you all for the responses and recommendations. I really appreciate it. Classical Conversations and Memorial Press both look like great options. 10andBOUNCE, I'll contact you tomorrow.

Our family has been homeschooling for ~16 years now. For a while, my wife cobbled her own curricula together. Then we spent a few years with Mother of Divine Grace. Back to cobbling again, this time utilizing Homeschool Connections for some online courses. We've also mixed in some dual enrollment and some Florida Virtual School (mainly science coursework).

Definitely recommend the classical model of education. Has served my older kids well (eldest is a Mech Eng senior with a 3.4 GPA).

Another vote for Classical Conversations. We've put two through it and have been very pleased. Some may comment that it is pretty rigorous. It is, but it's also scaleable. You can ramp ot up or down.

Aside from the curriculum, the community is also a huge plus. I led my older student's senior cohort snd it was one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences I've ever had.
