Very controversial bishop, one of the original 4 Econe consecrations, twice excommunicated, and outspoken.

After his first excommunication was lifted, a Swedish news channel published an old video in which he was baited into denying the scope of the Holocaust and the means of the deaths, and was suspended.

He then went off the deep end and started a power struggle within the SSPX, was kicked out and started illicitly consecrating bishops.

I applaud the Society for taking the high road in what was a very classy article about BP Williamson's passing.

Pray for his soul

He repeatedly held to his Holocaust denial and believed the Protocols of the Elders of Zion to be accurate.

Down to two "bishops" now, right?

When will the Society go schismatic again and ordain some more "bishops"?

Who's to say Pope Francis will deny their request? It's reported that the SSPX is going to (if not already) work with Rome on new bishops. Further, my understanding is that their superior general (Fr. Davide Pagliarani) and the Holy Father have a history together in Argentina and that Pope Francis has a ton of respect for Fr. Pagliarani in his work with the less fortunate there in Argentina.

The scare quotes around the word bishop is disingenuous. They are validly consecrated, which means that they are indeed real bishops. The consecrations were illicit, which is not the same as invalid. Proper form, matter, intention, and minister were used during those consecrations.

Were the bishops that Cdl Wojtyla consecrated during an explicit papal interdict "bishops"
