It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get to 10,000.

I'm still quite frustrated that the universal unitarians who have taken over what is called the UMC weren't the ones to branch off instead. They were the minority but refused to just create their own denomination.

But as someone who grew up in a conservative United Methodist Church that taught Wesleyan principles I'm happy to see the GMC growing.

You're surprised that a radical faction that refused to abide by the rules for years would act less than honorably? It's all about the money and social activism. There are a lot of UMC churches that are going to dissolve but UMC will keep the endowments and sell the real estate which will continue to fund liberal activism. All part of the plan.

The Wesley center at A&M under Max Mertz leadership had several become Methodist ministers. I wonder how many of the are GMC vs UMC. I know my friend is still UMC.

It's the progressive/leftist approach to everything -
Identify a respected institution, infect it, kill it, gut it, then
wear its carcass as a skin suit, while demanding respect.

And that's the real rub here unfortunately. A lot of more conservative UMCs voted to stay with the denomination or - in the case of my home church - didn't take a vote at all because the lead committee thought it was too divisive. Now they don't have the financial resources to leave. The churches shifting from UMC to GMC now are taking a huge financial hit and in a lot of cases are losing their buildings.
