Neighbor - very likable, executive, Indian woman says, her 13 yr old got the vaccine and she is looking forward for her 9 year old to be able to get it soon!

We go into Walmart - corner of Custer and 121. If you don't know that area of Frisco, it's probably 70% Indians most of the time. Threre's a neighborhood with 1500 homes 1 mile away that has 80% Indian population. Anyway, we go in, it wasn't really busy. and EVERYONE is wearing a mask except us!

I routinely see Asians and Indians wearing masks in their cars. We went to Garland, which has large Chinese and Vietnamese populations and had lunch at a Chinese restaurant. The strip mall has 3 Chinese restaurants and 3 Vietnamese restaurants and a Vietnamese grocery store. EVERYONE was wearing masks outside and in their cars.

Can someone explain the cultural aspect of the Indians? This was going on before the problems across India.

Perhaps its a requirement to maintain their H1B visas.

They have a different view of government, liberty, etc. than the rest of us. That's basically it. I also live in a heavy Indian/Asian area and see exactly what you describe.

It's why Europeans are also largely happy to blindly follow government mandates. They simply have a different view of the role of government than we do.

Well, at least a different view than I thought we had. If 2020 taught me anything it's that most people are proper little subjects just waiting to be told what to do by their betters.

Asian culture is very much into compliance with social norms to help protect societal stability.

Western culture is very much about individualism.

Hadn't considered that they may blindly follow mandates for this reason. Very good point.

Indians and Asians are typically very obedient and listen to rules.

As a Vietnamese guy, I never was good at being obedient

When you're not FROM a place, you tend to be more cautious for fear of offending someone.

Ever travel abroad to somewhere far away? Like maybe eastern Europe? You tend to be on your BEST behavior-- I've been to places like Lithuania, Ukraine, Estonia-- and I'm always on my best behavior.

When talking about Chinese and Indians they tend to come from heavily populated areas where they are used to having to follow rules and guidance from the government. Ever been to Mumbai or Beijing? It's absolutely insane amounts of people on top of each other and no sense of personal space. It's just a different culture.

I have an Indian neighbor 2 doors down I've known 20 years now. I remember how his wife would be terrified by dogs. He told me that back home you were taught to stay away from dogs because most of them were rabid and vicious. I have a Goldendoodle that looks like a giant stuffed animal and acts like one as well after about 5 years of having her outside she finally got to the point where she could smile at her and I even got her to pet her as she is about the least threatening animal on the planet. It's very hard to break that programming.

When Covid hit they basically didn't leave their house without a mask for a year. When their son came home from school they made him stay in his room and wear a mask at home.

India has been getting hit hard recently by Covid so they're probably panicking based on what's going on back home. Indians never really break their ties with the motherland whereas us Americans don't really give a damn about what's going on in Europe wrt Covid.

The Asians you've observed, I'm not sure what's wrong with them but I do know that cases are on the rise in Korea and Japan. So maybe they're playing along.

I work for a company with strong Indian ties. Covid has hit them hard for a lot longer than what the news has been covering. And the societal compliance is very real, only amplified when they are the "outsider".

Recent visitors to work were amazed and shocked we didn't wear masks and felt pressured to follow suit.

The individualism is a huge difference between cultures. It is a big selling point to the Indian coworkers I have that put in for coming to the US longterm.

I worked with a guy fro India - who is legit terrified to the point that he's afraid to check the mail. He hasn't been outside his home but a couple times in 15 months.

In some Asian countries masks have been worn as almost a fashion statement for years.
Some women wearing it to prevent being chatted up by men.

India is a disease ridden, overpopulated. Hell-hole of a place. I don't blame them for running to get the vaccine, given the environment they come from.

I'm not taking it because I don't need to, based on available data of hospitilization rates for those in my age group. If anyone else wants to, be my guest I won't judge....America used to be like that untill we gave the leftists control.

In general everyone in America before 1920 or so came here b/c they were being oppressed by something...and America allowed them to live with less rules.

My Irish friend has been laughing at Americans since he moved here in the mid 2000s. Always wondering why people in America dont like being told what to do.

Many Asians were wearing masks before COVID-19.

Maybe, some of them just have a deep distrust of the CCP.

Wife's side of the family is East Asian (Korean)...all immigrant and first gen. From my experience with them, and from decades of observation in general, Asians seem to be VERY cautious, calculated and obedient by nature. For whatever reason, they tend to fully trust America's media institutions...like they just assume they are fair and well intended.

I really hope this next part does not offend anyone and there are obviously MANY exceptions...but their strong suit seems to be discipline and emphasis on hard work and education. Asians tend to be pushed hard by their parents to excel, in general stay away from hard partying in HS and college and commit more hours to learning and memorization of books and lectures. However, I have found that free-thinking, logic and common sense...along with philosophical multi-dimensional thinking...simply is not prioritized. They tend to be very calculated but have trouble thinking in the abstract. I don't think this is necessarily a DNA thing...I just think they prioritize societal advancement and academic and career accolades to such a degree, that there is very little emphasis on free critical thinking. This seems to apply to most Indians I know as well.

I constantly finding myself thinking "how can these multi-millionaire doctors and successful phd's be so oblivious and naive" at large family functions like weddings on my wife's side. I just think many have been trained and conditioned to be hyper cautious, hyper obedient, and hyper focused on education and memorization...sometimes to a detriment in other areas of life.

I realize this is all anecdotal, but it's my honest observation and critique. I would like to hear a rebuttal to this. My first gen Korean-American wife who loves art, poetry and philosophy has stated as much as well.

All that being said, there seems to be a growing segment of young male and female Asians of the "rooftop Korean", "don't tread on me" variety who love them some guns and hate them some leftism. Esp in TX and the south, but I have read articles on how many of them seem to be waking up in places that have gone full libt@rd, like California...where it has become so obvious and blatant, and damaging (esp to their personal fruits of labor) that they are waking up and going against the system.

Saturday morning an Indian guy with a small child knocked on my door. When I answered, he said, "Oh, I was looking for the Patel house."

Ha! Good luck, buddy. There's probably 15 Patel houses on my street. "Try next door, or the house across the street, or the one two doors down, or ..."

I have friends - married couple - one is Indian and the other is Chinese.

It's a double whammy of cultural fear. They still haven't left their house together...once. He's been out a few times alone under strict guidelines from her to stay six feet away from everyone, wear a mask, and not drink.

He ignores all of that the two times I've seen him out of sheer desperation for human contact.
