People catch a cold or flu when reaching a certain viral load. Different for different people.
Masks don't stop viruses from being breathed in…….but they can reduce the number. The degree depends on the type of mask. From N95 to a useless bandana mask.
End result: if you're around someone with cold/flu, masks can delay you reaching the viral load, again, the degree to which depends on the type of mask.
