Seeing more and more people out in public (grocery stores and such) wearing masks. Seeing my custiodian where I work and a few others wearing masks.

What do you think when you see someone wearing a mask?

Making state mask mandates illegal has recently been proposed by the Idaho government. Maybe we can try to get using masks in public illegal too.

I never saw masks before Covid. Maybe a rare occasion. But let's not act like this was common before 2020.

Seen a few more recently, probably because of the media hysteria about the flu/bird flu.

Other than the random Asian person who was doing that long before the WuFlu happened, it is mostly either old people, or blacks who still wear them.

Asian folks have worn masks pretty consistently during flu season since at least the SARS fiasco.

I prefer someone who is coughing a lot to wear a mask. Same if you are not feeling well whether you have the flu or not.

I am against masks, never wore one unless absolutely threatened with expulsion and it would impact others, but I think at this point let people do what they want.

I just assume the mask wearer needs to wear it for theirs or my protection or that they are an idiot liberal. And I am fine with such assumptions.

There were like 50,000 hospitalizations from flu this past week. That's probably why.

But masks for don't prevent spread.

Yep, many chemo patients wear masks these days too. It's a free country so wear them if you want to, just don't tell others they must wear them.

Mixed feelings: Giggling because masks don't help with anything and they are being dumb, then sadness because some are so worn down by the hysteria that they have given up all logic. Then finally my libertarian tendencies kick in, and I decide that if they want to wear a mask, wear a mask - it's doesn't affect me at all.

I remember the fun days during COVID when the left told us to wear masks to protect ourselves. Then they changed it and said that masks don't protect the one wearing it, but protect others from the one wearing it. It's like a one way check valve. Thus, everyone had an obligation to wear a mask.

If the person is obviously Asian I give them some space, because it is more likely they are wearing them as social signaling to warn other people they have recently experienced some sort of cold symptoms. That is common in most Asian cultures.

If it is white woman or a dude with a neck beard, I point and laugh.

I avoid all cars where the driver is wearing a mask, because they are likely to either be bad drivers or not have any car insurance.

Wearing a paper diaper on your face won't keep you from getting the flu. Frequent handwashing, not being around people who have the flu, will help.

If you have the flu, a paper face diaper may keep you from spraying flu spittle on people.

True, but not really relevant. Rogue asked how I feel when I see them, and I answered. I laugh, then and feel guilty or sad, then I just forget about as there is nothing I can say or do that would make them apply logic to the mask idea.

Yep, good hand hygiene is required. It's not just aerosols and droplets like COVID primarily is.

Let's go back over the facts for a minute.

People catch a cold or flu when reaching a certain viral load. Different for different people.
Masks don't stop viruses from being breathed in…….but they can reduce the number. The degree depends on the type of mask. From N95 to a useless bandana mask.

End result: if you're around someone with cold/flu, masks can delay you reaching the viral load, again, the degree to which depends on the type of mask.
