Small factions have risen up already against the cartels with literally nothing but farm tools. They're a proud and gutsy people but the corruption at every single level of authority has doomed them for two centuries.
Mexico is a beautiful country, full of beautiful, hard working people who espouse Judeo-Christian family values. Full of natural resources, an ocean on either side. Theres no reason they shouldn't be a first world country.
We should have been doing more to help them help themselves for years.
I will rejoice when the day comes that Mexico belongs to the people again.

My message to Sheinbaum…..get effed pendeja. My grandparents were from Mexico and always enjoyed visiting their hometown during the summers. Always makes me so sad to see the government leaving their citizens to the mercy of the cartels. As many have said above, such a beautiful country with people whose values oftentimes align with ours being destroyed by corruption.

Look, I understand her taking that position regarding action against the cartels. It would be one thing for a Mexican president to look the other way if we took covert action that couldn't be traced back to the US easily, but, if we go public, she has to defend their sovereignty, and can't be seen to be getting rolled over. As always with Trump, you have to assume that his public statements are an opening negotiating position. We'll see what kind of deal gets made.

On the guns, suing the manufacturers is just stupid. The attorneys who file that ought to get sanctioned. The manufacture of guns is a legal activity; the unauthorized importation of guns to Mexico is an intervening crime by third parties. If they want to sue retailers or others whose activities can be directly linked to the cartel (or its US agents), go for it. But, suing US gun manufacturers for guns that end up in the hands of Mexican cartels would be like suing Mexican tequilla distillers for every DWI that's committed by someone who's had too many margaritas in the US.

This right here. I grew up in the Valley. Always loved the way we were treated by the people and businesses when we'd go to Nuevo Progresso and Reynosa. They would like their lives and businesses back….and to live peacefully. This is one of the reasons the Valley went Red. Many have friends and family across the river. They know what needs to be done.

Exactly this. Post Civil War for several decades, the US had many problems with bad actors that were often solved with a shotgun or rifle. Good people in Mexico today All need a shotgun and rifle. And they need to use them.

This would not merely be ground troops but "Air Support" that would take out their counterparts ASAP leaving the cartels without hope.
