" SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) Thousands of dollars of COVID relief funds were used by a Utah school district for a conference in Las Vegas.

The report comes from the Department of Government Efficiency."

" In 2022, Granite School District reportedly used $86,000 of COVID relief funds for hotel accommodations at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. 123 educators attended a three-day professional development conference by Solution Tree."

" A former substitute teacher with the district said he is not surprised with how the taxpayer dollars were spent.

"A lot of money being wasted on stuff that I'd seen when I was teaching. Things we needed, like books and stuff like that, they said we don't have enough money," Narciso Vasquez said.

District officials said they got the hotel rooms at the government rate of $220 a night."

Well, government rate for great hotel rooms! For 123 employees!

It must be really embarrassing to see these peccadillos exposed by DOGE.

No doubt this type of thing happened in dozens, if not hundreds, of school districts across the country during covid. No accountability

I've mentioned before that I know of an Alaskan village of fewer than 200 people that got Covid funds in excess of $3MM. This is all similar to USAID. Huge pot of money pilfered from taxpayers.

I know a guy who owns an office supply company who has a contract with some schools to provide electronic equipment, paper, ink, furniture, etc.

He made an absolute fortune during COVID with the money flowing like water. They upgraded their printers, copiers, furniture, etc during that time.

Looks like this little party was put on by a company called Solution Tree out of Indianapolis. CEO's X page (Jeffery Jones) is full of pics with DC insiders and congressman. Definitely eating at the trough.

After the "remote learning" phase was over, I asked what happened to all the savings from not running buses every day and on sports trips? The savings from not feeding all the students every day? The savings from not having to use as much electricity/water/gas in schools?

As a taxpayer, I didn't get a refund. No one has ever given any answers.

One of my best friends is in HVAC. He replaced dozens of A/C units on government property so they would have "upgraded" air filters. Many of the units replaced were no more than a year to a few years old in perfect condition and he was not only paid to haul them off but got to resell them at 100% profit. He normally makes 5-600K/year and made over 2 million in 2020

Give a school district money and they will spend it wisely.... Just kidding.
This same school district will turn around and ask the voters for a bond to build a press box for their sports stadiums.
Hondo.

And then they will vote for multi year school tax abatements for foreign companies building a new solar farm in the school district.

Spring and summer of 2020 the government machine was making go "BRRRR!" Like it was going out of style.

I'm sure things like this can be found in every place (public and private) that received covid money.
