Yikes. The train could be a huge spreader event.

Lockdown. Mask up. WFH. Physically separate. Wipe down your groceries. Shut down churches. Return to distant learning (all teachers report to a pool or beach near you). Hand out stimulus checks. …..

My favorite part is how the measles vaccine isn't a left or right issue.

NIH says the herd immunity level for measles is 95%, and current vaccination rates nationwide for measles are around 92%. But I suspect it's higher in urban areas and lower in rural areas. So the local vaccination rate may very well be high enough to avoid an outbreak.

We have measles outbreaks all the time. They just don't gain ground because most are vaxxed.

I just read a statistic that 89% of the relatively few people in the US that got measles last year weren't vaccinated.

I've never had it so I don't know what it's like, but I'm confident that I'd rather just have a quick jab to give me 25+ years of protection.

I would argue that it's lower in urban areas. Especially poor urban areas. Look at how many poor urban parents care so little about their kids. They refuse to work to feed them, they don't care to educate them, why do you think they care about getting simple vaccines?

Measles has been medically recorded for over 1000 years. Most people in America are immune. I had German AND Red Measles (and chicken pox and mumps) as a kid (AND LIVED!). There are literally hundreds of people who have had measles in this outbreak.

All this means we should give billions more to the CDC, shut down businesses and especially churches, enable government to grow exponentially and especially allow voting by mail without limitation.

Check out this clip from The Brady Bunch for a glimpse of how people used to view the measles...back before we turned into giant sissies afraid of our own shadows...

Greg: "Boy this is the life isn't it?"

Marsha: "Yep, if you have to get sick, you can't beat the measles!"

Something mildly interesting -- Europeans, during the Columbian Exchange, introduced smallpox, measles and flu to the Americas. It is estimated that 80-95% of the Native American population died from diseases introduced by Europeans within the first 100-150 years following 1492.

But best evidence suggest the Indians gave Europeans syphilis.

OUCH!

Seriously - IMO, not a generally question of guilt, just "stuff" happens. Until you get to the idea that Brits may have intentionally infected Indians at Ft. Pitt, but this is still in doubt and appears to be isoated, if it did indeed happen.

I hope I don't get in trouble for posting this meme, but do you remember Monty Python's "Spot the Looney" episode?

Well, I have this version for the democrats in D.C....

Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.

Probably. But which is better? Two or shots over a lifetime and never get measles? Or get measles once and then never get it again? It's mostly been a non-issue since I was born so I had to look it up. Sounds like typical flu symptoms (and of course the dots) and lasts 7-10 days. Even if my life is never threatened, I'd rather have the shot.

This isn't the Covid "therapeutic". The vaccine for polio wiped out polio. REAL immunity.

The measles vaccine prevents measles in most people who get it.

Don't be a dummy.

smart people get the measles vaccine, so this isn't a big deal.
