Here in the NW Houston suburbs I have been impressed with my observation of Gen Z males. They are clearly not wussified libs and many seem to have exchanged drinking/partying/eating like sh** with clean living and hitting the gym. Facial hair and mullets that say "F liberals" to me as well.

Pretty sure among young well adjusted males, the woke stuff is the complete opposite of cool.

I have 9 kids. All of them are Gen Y.

All but the youngest are pretty conservative.

The youngest, born in 1995, is probably the most liberal...But that is in her social policy views.

She's actually grown to be very religious in Christianity.

I grew up Lutheran as did my ex-wife. My late wife was Baptist.

My oldest biological son was baptized as a Lutheran when I was with my ex-wife (Lutherans do that not long after birth).

**** went sideways and my youngest biological daughter didn't get baptized Lutheran.

My late wife and I took the all the kids to the local Baptist church. Our view was to at least expose them to the church and let them make their own decisions. Several of them chose to be baptized.

Agree with the observations on youthful rebellion. GenZ is rebelling against woke culture. The same sarcasm style that my peers in the 90s aimed at things like mainstream Christianity is now aimed at the Left.

I think history will review the tipping point in the late Obama era with things like safe spaces, Harambe Memes and the Missouri University Poop Swastika

Both of my kids are in high school and very conservative. Part of it is likely the way we raised them but their friends are conservative. Im actually very hopeful for this generation.

I visited A&M with my oldest a few weeks ago and most of the kids I saw on campus looked very conservative too. I was actually very impressed.

the pendulum appears to be swinging back towards traditional judeo/christian values. This happens almost every generation.

I think a lot of this latest generation is figuring out that there is no meaning in all the materialism and social media and shallow relationships. That's the consistent in humanity. People always search for a deeper meaning and the world being at their fingertips doesn't provide that.

I grew up in that world. My Mom and Dad taught in them around the world. Azores, Japan, Germany, and England.

It was so extreme that my blue-haired, ultra liberal ex-wife agreed we had to get our son out & into a private Catholic school.

Folks in Austin work really hard 24/7 trying to stay "weird" & woke; the result is an absolute circus!!!

I don't know that we're natural born rebels but I do believe human nature is to be selfish and get what's yours. You have to be taught otherwise. You don't have to teach a child to say "mine."
But there are some encouraging signs worldwide that youth are turning back toward God. If that's rebellion that God bless them.

Maybe in some isolated areas in the big cities. They are going to mirror their politics a bit. But my point still stands that the VAST majority of students in Texas are not heavily influenced like that by their teachers. It's one of this things where you(generic) read about two or three incidents on Facebook and believe that it is everywhere.

Every major school district in Texas is that way.

Every generation thinks they are rebels. Some even have a worthwhile cause.

I got nothing against Gen Z males ... except they need to ditch the broccoli haircuts.

It is biological in nature.

All children are born with a brain that absorbs everything from their parents. They learn to emulate their parents. They will always test boundaries, from as young as 18 months, but they learn to emulate their parents.

Then, at some point during adolescence, brains start to re-wire and kids begin to learn to have their own identity. This looks different from person to person, but the gist of it is, kids start to question whether they believe something because they have evidence that this thing is true, or because that is what they were taught. It happens a little earlier in girls than guys, and is more violent for girls most of the time, but doesn't last as long for girls as it does for guys.

It is a healthy part of mental maturity. As a parent, the best that you can do is to teach about the consequences of bad decisions, and hold kids accountable for their decisions. At some point "I said so" turns into a really, really bad reason for a rule. It is a tough dance to give a kid enough rope to make mistakes without suffering life-long consequences, but, I like JP's take on this: "don't disturb kids when they are skateboarding." But, I would add one caveat: "But insist that they wear a helmet."
