Watch this if you want to know how the H1B scam works.

This guy on the right is a former H1B and now is back in India. He has written a book on this.

Education for naive foolish Americans who think we are hiring "the best and brightest".
We got played for 30 years. Our futures and our kid's futures sold off by US CEOs and US Politicians. All to make their bonus numbers and juice up the stock market.

Also, read the comments.

This is infuriating. I've experienced this from the trenches, but it's even worse when I hear about how it works at a macro level.

Edit: One of the final takeaways is that the guest/author estimates that 75% of H1B workers aren't "the best and the brightest."

They're just average employees who agreed to accept lower than market wages in exchange for a job in the U.S. that displaces American workers. The placement companies fake their resumes and take interviews on their behalf.

I have explained this on F16 for years now and no one seems to really care.

The H1B is a ****ing scam and ****ing American workers.

It's also a huge gateway to pregnancy tourism.

Such bull**** that we don't have the talent in America. Employers and government selling out American citizens for some cheaper labor and kickbacks.

We have a rather large hospice care organization close by. Ran by Indian population, hiring low paying employees, sponsoring HIB and yet all their income is from government money. All this while ESL cost at local schools are through the roof. Remember that ESL isn't only speaking but understanding what's being said as well as writing.

When I visit our small rural elementary school nothing pisses me off more than my kid's school having 3-4 ESL classes helping illegals with kids become bilingual, with no option for my own kids to become bilingual.

No, they don't hate Americans. You are wrong.

They love our money and our jobs and our prosperity and want a piece of it. And of course to live in our country.

They laugh at us at how naive we are (they are right), how they have fooled us and our leaders for decades. Now they gaslight us with "if you get rid of us, your IT industry will collapse". They are not 100% wrong unfortunately but we have to wean ourselves off.

Make sure you understand the distinction.

When you flood the tech entry points with H1Bs you necessarily erode all subsequent competencies.

Hiring another cheap mediocre Indian into an SAP clean up role doesn't feel like a traitorous act, but it's one fewer entry point for a potential American career. Multiply that across the industry for decades and we've collectively transferred an entire generation of business system competence to non-Americans.

Yep. I know someone disagreed with me on this yesterday, but you can get higher quality work at a faster pace with fewer Americans with the same bottom line labor costs that you would have paid the Indians. Even if you pay Americans a little more on that line item your quality and pace is so much better it's incomparable.

You will have to go back to the well multiple times with the Indians to get it done right.

I've lived this.

I generated a transcript of the video and used Grok to summarize. Have not verified but you can get an idea. The interesting thing is a former H1B is saying that Trump did not go far enough in his latest H1B moves!

Quote:

The discussion, hosted by G. Sat on InFocus, explores the complexities and alleged abuses of the H-1B visa program with guest Tanul Takur, an independent journalist and former H-1B worker. Below is a summary of the key points:

Origins and Purpose of the H-1B Program:

The H-1B visa program, established by the Immigration Act of 1990, aims to address a perceived STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) shortage in the U.S. by allowing skilled foreign workers to fill specialized roles.

Takur argues the program was founded on a flawed 1986 National Science Foundation study, which falsely projected a significant STEM worker shortage by 2006. This "scam" narrative, debunked by 1992, still influenced the program's creation.

Alleged Abuses of the H-1B Program:

Prevailing Wage Loopholes: The program allows employers to pay H-1B workers below median salaries due to flawed wage tier structures (set by the 2004 Act), enabling legal underpayment. Employers can select lower wage surveys, undercutting American workers and exploiting H-1B workers.
DI Consultancies (Body Shops): Indian IT consultancies, often called "body shops," are accused of systemic fraud, including fabricating resumes with fake experience, using proxy interviews (where someone else answers for the candidate), and providing "on-job support" to help underqualified workers survive in roles at major U.S. companies (e.g., Amazon, Google, Bank of America).
Exploitation of H-1B Workers: H-1B workers are often "enslaved" by consultancies that control their visas, limiting their ability to complain or change jobs. Underpayment can range from $30-$70/hour, equating to $60,000-$140,000 annually, and long green card queues (10-20 years) further trap workers.
Impact on American Workers: American IT workers face job displacement, often being forced to train their H-1B replacements under threat of losing severance or being blackballed. Notable cases include Southern California Edison (2015) and Disney, where mass layoffs preceded H-1B hiring.

Trump's Executive Order (2025):

President Trump introduced a $100,000 one-time fee for new H-1B visa applications after September 21, 2025, applicable only to new applicants outside the U.S., not renewals or those already in the country.
Takur argues this measure is insufficient to curb abuses, calling it "mildly punitive." The fee is negligible for large corporations, and loopholes like the L-1 visa (with no wage or cap restrictions) allow companies to bypass H-1B limitations.

Broader Implications:

Indian Workers: Many H-1B workers, despite exploitation, prefer U.S. opportunities over limited prospects in India, highlighting systemic issues in India's job market. Takur notes an "entitled" mindset among some workers who view the U.S. as their rightful home, despite the temporary nature of the visa.
American Workers: Displaced workers face economic, psychological, and emotional tolls, with stories like Kevin Flanigan's 2003 suicide underscoring the human cost. Takur emphasizes that American IT workers are not lazy or unskilled, countering stereotypes.
Corporate Beneficiaries: Both U.S. tech giants and Indian outsourcing firms (e.g., TCS, Infosys) exploit the program's loopholes, with the former influencing legislation and the latter engaging in fraudulent practices. Takur calls this a "moral blot" on both nations.

Critique of the Program's Design:

The H-1B program is meant for the "best and brightest," but Takur estimates 75% of current H-1B workers do not meet this standard, performing ordinary work due to systemic flaws.

The program benefits corporations over workers, creating a cycle of exploitation for both H-1B and American workers, who Takur believes should unite against corporate greed rather than be divided by xenophobia.

Future Outlook:

Takur predicts minimal change due to the executive order's limited scope. Companies may shift to L-1 visas or continue exploiting existing loopholes. Geopolitical tensions and corporate lobbying will likely maintain the status quo.
The rise of AI and other forces may influence future business practices, but Takur sees governments adapting to corporate interests rather than reforming the system.

Takur's Personal Perspective:

As a former H-1B worker, Takur empathizes with exploited workers but criticizes the program's structure. His book, Wild Wild East: Exiled Americans, Enslaved Indians and the Systemic Abuse of the H1B Program, set for release in November 2025, details these issues based on his eight-year investigation.

In conclusion, Takur portrays the H-1B program as a deeply flawed system that exploits both foreign and American workers while benefiting corporations. Trump's executive order is seen as a weak response to a complex, decades-long issue rooted in legal loopholes and corporate influence.

OK. I thought you meant smell just by driving around.

Anyway, smell or not has nothing to do with anything. We import the 3rd world, we become the 3rd world.

What is Trump doing about this? I was hoping for a complete US visa (all kinds) overhaul. Nothing yet.

FWIW.

I haven't read it yet, but will do so this weekend. I'm sure most here will have an opinion.

Trump's H-1B Changes Won't Work

Hate is how progressives sustain themselves. Without hate, introspection begins to slip into the progressive's consciousness, threatening the progressive with the truth: that their ideas and opinions are illogical, hypocritical, dangerous, and asinine.
This is backed by data.

In Elementary schools around Texas, particularly rural ones, up to half of the staff could be tied up in English as a Second Language education. But it's never offered as a Spanish immersion option for others. Hell our Spanish classes in Jr HS and HS are online based with no fluent speaker teaching it.

How many of those companies are shell companies that exist just to place consultants with larger corporations so they aren't directly having to navigate the H1B process?

"If" there's some fraud involved, well it was some independent consulting company that provided plausible deniability…and if any penalties were to ever be assessed (I'm guessing that highly unlikely)…well that shell company doesn't have any assets anyway. Just shut it down and start another one.

This country is only for rich people. Once you are rich, it is very easy to get richer. If you are poor, it is very very hard to break out of it. Not a good omen for the future.

Trump working behind the scenes. He tells these H1Bs to back to their own countries (and not Meheeeko) and get visa appointments for renewal and then when they go, USCIS cancels the appointments.

Even though several longtime friends got their start here on student visas then H-1Bs, I always thought it was bizarre they could renew visa in CIudad Juarez and not Delhi, Colombo, etc.

It should be difficult, not easy, to come here and stay as a guest student / worker / etc.
