This guy just can't read the room....

BTW, I thought the HIRE act was supposed to be to tack on 25% fee for every offshored job.
Everyone is ripping off the country. After a point, there won't be a country to loot.

This is from an Indian newspaper. I love all the nice phrases like "global talent pool" and "workforce shortages" when Americans in tech are losing their jobs. It's good that I am more or less an investor now as the tech industry has been destroyed for Americans. Boomer strategy works well here, put my money aligned with American greed and ultimately make more and more money. It has worked well for the past 10 years.

HIRE Act: US lawmaker reintroduces bill to double H-1B visas available to 1,30,000

The legislation, which intends to strengthen the US' long-term economic and technological competitiveness, has a dual track approach to deal with workforce shortages -- drawing more skilled workers from the global talent pool and increasing federal investments in American STEM education to grow the domestic workforce.

As H-1B visas become expensive amid a call by a section of Americans against hiring employees from abroad, Democrat lawmaker Raja Krishnamoorthi said he has reintroduced the High-Skilled Immigration Reform for Employment (HIRE) Act that aims at doubling the number of H-1B available to 1,30,000.

The legislation, which intends to strengthen the US' long-term economic and technological competitiveness, has a dual track approach to deal with workforce shortages drawing more skilled workers from the global talent pool and increasing federal investments in American STEM education to grow the domestic workforce.

What is the HIRE Act
The Act supported by ITServe Alliance, the nation's largest association of IT services organizations would double the number of the highly debated H-1B visas from 65,000 to 1,30,000 to ensure employers, including those in critical and emerging technology sectors, have access to adequate human capital. The Act will also remove the current cap, which is set at 20,000, on additional slots for H-1B visas available to those who have advanced US degrees.

Note: ITServe Alliance is an Indian IT offshoring org based out of Dallas.

This is either proof of this guy being monumentally stupid (moreso than just being a Dem/lib dictates he is) OR Trump-level trolling.

Is 1,30,000 some standard way in India of writing 130,000? I've never seen that before.

More likely the AI used to write the article for them glitched. That or like most of them, prone to make mistakes that must be corrected by Americans

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_numbering_system

Quote:

The Indian numbering system is used in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh to express large numbers, which differs from the International System of Units. Commonly used quantities include lakh (one hundred thousand, 105) and crore (ten million, 107) written as 1,00,000 and 1,00,00,000 respectively in some locales.[1] For example: 150,000 rupees is "1.5 lakh rupees" which can be written as "1,50,000 rupees", and 30,000,000 (thirty million) rupees is referred to as "3 crore rupees" which can be written as "3,00,00,000 rupees".

Why blame foreigners when our own politicians hate us?

Just like it is a corporations job to "maximize shareholder value", the US politician's job is to "maximize chances of re-election". That is what he and she does.

It's you and I who are the suckers here.

Trump and team can do a lot. If they are not, it says something.

I am not personally confident that he will do what needs to be done. So I hedge my bets. If H1Bs increase, I will make more money (though my kids will not get the jobs they deserve).

Time to shut down the program. And start another one without any loopholes.
Is Trump sleeping??

Always watch actions not words.

Trump made nice with India by saying we need H1Bs but he is rejecting them behind the scenes.

Slow crackdown is underway. He isn't making noise or waves. This is the best way to do it rather than just cancel the thing though it would make me feel good if he just canceled H1B completely.

So looks like Indian H1Bs are replaced by Americans companies hiring H1Bs directly.

What will crooked CEOs do now? Offshore more jobs seems likely. Trump is preparing to tax them 25% for each job. A lot is yet to be done as this is only the start.

H-1B visa approvals: Amazon, Meta, Microsoft lead, Indian IT faces 70% fall
https://www.business-standard.com/immigration/h-1b-visa-approvals-amazon-meta-microsoft-lead-indian-it-faces-70-fall-125120200461_1.html

Quote:

The top seven India-based IT companies secured only 4,573 approvals for new H-1B employment in FY 2025, a fall of 70% since 2015 and 37% lower than 2024, according to new figures from the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP). The numbers show a widening gap between Indian IT firms and America's largest technology companies, which are spending heavily on artificial intelligence and bringing in foreign-born graduates to build those systems inside the United States.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was the only Indian IT company in the top five for continuing-employment approvals this year. But its extension denial rate rose to 7% in 2025, up from 4% in 2024.
