Visited a fair number of national parks and Americans were typically the minority. Glad they are doing it.

A lot of countries do this. They have lower prices for nearly everything for citizens.

I am a seasonal employee at one of these parks. While we have many foreign guests they certainly are not close to the majority. Does this policy mean that all visitors will have to provide citizenship proof prior to entry?

If you can provide US citizenship you get a discount. Otherwise pay the third world price

Been to a lot of National Parks and Battlefields lately. Some are 100% free. I don't agree with that, if you can afford the gas to get to the park, you can spend a few bucks to keep it going.

And if you come from overseas, you can damn sure afford to kick in extra

Also been to a lot of state parks. Many offer old fart discounts, but often only to citizens of the state. That makes sense.

I have purchased a lifetime old guy discount for National Parks. I think it was a one time cost of 80 bucks, and I usually get 1/2 off entry and camping, at any federal park, including Corps of Engineers. Sometimes entry is free.

while I appreciate the savings, it seems bass ackwards to me. I needed a discount when I was young and had a family to pay fees for, and darn little money. Now that I'm old I have plenty of money, and don't need the discount

I pay the Quero tax down at the panderia and tamale factory, so these things have always been acceptable.

They were a scourge in Iceland when we went. I would bar them from entry. Total lack of respect for anyone around them. Refuse to listen to anyone and actually dangerous to be around. We were doing a glacier hike and got stuck with a Chinese group and our guide had to cut the hike short because the idiot Chinese would not listen to him and kept disobeying his requests to stay on path.

I told him to let them die, but he obviously can't do that.

Good, non-citizens should pay a premium to enjoy what is meant for the citizens of our great nation. I've seen enough 3rd worlders visiting GNP, GTNP, and Yellowstone litter and do other tomfoolery, that they should pay a surcharge.

Asian cultures seem to have zero sense of personal space/boundaries. They don't understand the concept of waiting in line either.

I don't agree with wasting land on national parks in the first place, but, if we're gonna be dumb might as well charge the foreigners more.

Ever visit any of the archaological sites in Mexico?

Mexicans are granted free entry or at a major discount compared to gringos

If we pay 20 bucks now to enter a US park, we need to charge atleast 60-80 for the foreigners

It makes sense. I've had to provide a driver's license and license plate number when entering certain parks.
Others you just park in a dirt lot and walk on in.

If it's currently free, make it free for everyone. If there's admission, charge non-citizens more.

I assume my taxes help pay for national parks, those that don't pay taxes SHOULD pay more.

It's this way in much of the rest of the world. Look at this as like a reciprocal tariff. Also, we should absolutely ban Chinese nationals. They are a scourge that destroys anything nice.

I was at the Pearl Harbor memorial a few years ago. Ran into a few Japanese teenagers on a field trip. You can image what happened.

I'm not arguing for or against the discount here, but a lot of seniors live on a low fixed income. That's probably who they had in mind.

I'm sure they would take your money if you want to pay more.

Exceptions abound, but as a group, Senior Citizens are probably the most affluent demographic.

And let's be honest, if I'm towing a $50,000 RV 1000 miles with my $100,000 pickup*, I can probably afford $20 a night for an RV slot.

As far as paying more, getting discounts is one of the ways I got to be well off. And that leaves me free to throw money in the contribution jars, or buy their over-priced crap in the gift shop for the grandkids.

*My pickup in a 2002, and even with upgrades and modifications, I have spent less than $30,000 for it, purchase included. And our trailer is slightly used, was about 40k

Yes, charge them more. A lot more. Our trips to National Parks have led to our experience that if someone is going to be a jackass, vast majority of the time they are foreign. We had to get on a big family that was hiking near Paradise below Rainer. While they were taking family photos their ****ty kids were running all over. The whole group completely ignored the signs everywhere about staying on the path and not trampling the sensitive areas. They showed no remorse when we called them out.

Also, walking as groups in paths, they have no courtesy at all. Picture time, they stand around the scenic areas and don't move out of the way after they get their photos.

Small L, but yes, you're right on the non ownership of land like that.

My point to Tesla was that his statement was silly that parks were the best thing about the country.

You may underestimate the value of national parks and landmarks. They preserve natural beauty, protect wildlife, honor our history, and give citizens and tourists places to connect with our country in deeply meaningful ways. Thankfully, most people see the importance of protecting these resources for future generations. Those who don't stand out, although perhaps not as they might hope.

I already stand out, so....meh.

As to your post...."Cool story, bro!".

You have a vote and I have a vote. I would never vote based upon someone's stance on this, I just see zero benefit to National Parks, or State ones for that matter. And I've been to a lot, and have been deeply whelmed. DEEPLY whelmed.

Been overseas a lot and very common that citizens/residents get discounts versus international tourists. At museums, parks, etc. I would expect that more often than not.

How will they check if American or not? Everyone got to walk around with their passports?

As some said, I have seen locals charged differently from foreign people esp in Asia. But then for them a foreign person is race based - white, black means foreigner.

I visited several sites in Europe, I paid more as an American. In Nepal, the parks were more and even the local airlines charged more for non-Nepalis. Of course, the Nepalis would get bumped from a flight to make room for the foreigners. My flight from Kathmandu to Pokara was 4x the cost of a Nepali's flight.
