So, the death of, and most likely assassination of, Ella Cook at Brown university got me thinking.
Her death is so obviously a result of a hostile environment fostered by the University that the University did not take seriously.
Do Universities owe their students a duty to make sure that they can pursue and education where they are not threatened due to their beliefs and demographics?
If the person was a black student and was hanged, then the obvious answer would be yes, from anyone, by any standard.
This person was an outspoken white conservative woman, and she was most likely assassinated for just that. Brown University has been fostering an environment of hate against people like her. Do they owe any duty to protect her from that?
I would challenge you to answer the question in a way that is race, gender, and ideology agnostic. Either a University owes a duty of protection against violence due to their identity, or they do not.
What say you F16?
