I love it how Trump hits the iron when it is hot. Whenever there is an attack or something happening, he takes immediate corrective action, this mutes the criticism as the scumbag Dems (usually) don't want to be seen supporting terrorists and murderers.

Whatever one says, things keep moving under the Trump Administration.

(Bloomberg) -- The Trump administration halted the US green card lottery program, which it said was used by the suspect in the Brown University shooting and killing of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a post on X that she's asking US Citizenship and Immigration Services to pause the lottery, officially known as the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.

Quote:

US authorities earlier identified the shooter as Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, a 48-year-old Portuguese national who was a former student at Brown. Noem said he was granted a green card through the lottery program in 2017. His body was found Thursday after an apparent suicide.
"This heinous individual should never have been allowed in our country," Noem said in the post, adding the pause will "ensure no more Americans are harmed by this disastrous program."

Suspending the lottery program, which awards up to 50,000 visas annually, is the latest step by President Donald Trump to limit immigration, often in response to violence his administration blames on lax immigration policies.

The administration earlier clamped down on immigration from mostly developing nations after an Afghan national was suspected of shooting two National Guard soldiers in Washington.
It also moved to add a $100,000 application fee for H-1B visas, often used by the tech sector, and has raised the prospect of vetting years of social media histories for tourists wanting to visit the US.
The administration has also pursued aggressive immigration enforcement after Trump promised to carry out the largest deportation in US history. Border patrol agents have been active in cities including Chicago and Los Angeles. The administration is also moving forward with plans to dramatically expand immigration detention capacity, potentially using up to two dozen warehouse "mega centers" across the country.

Great move. Programs should not exist solely because a person fits in a demographic box. This is national suicide.

I agree here.

But, I think the Trump House is likely very strategic about this stuff, especially after the freedom day fiasco.

The White House has probably been looking into how to pause the lottery with as little legal and public opinion friction as possible, and had a game-plan queued up to announce when an event like this happened.

And, given the rhetoric in college campuses we are seeing now, something like this was just inevitable to happen.

Good move. Guy is schizo this last month. One day he says and does something stupid and then the next day he sucks me back in. Wish he was more consistent.

Limiting 50,000 visas is
a) the right thing to do
b) a drop in the bucket
c) not going to move the needle one way or the other.

The real news was them moving to drop all immigrants from receiving federal welfare benefits. That can lead to millions of immigrants self deporting

My only complaint is that the "Diversity immigrant visa program" should have been eliminated about 11 months ago on day 1.

Yup. Why wasn't it done? Maybe Trump was not aware of massive number of weird visa options available?

I think you mean this WAS national suicide. It's over, brother. We are at the beginning of feeling the effects. It's all down hill from here and there's nothing that can be done.

Funny, given mass bannings like this is a long standing leftist SOP every time after a national "crisis" - particularly with guns. Using their own strategy against them except this one has merit.
