That's not true. Maybe some of the surgeries are after 18 but they are definitely cutting girls breasts off and giving them puberty blockers that is just as detrimental to their development.

Phalloplasty, a major body alteration, is basically the final step of any F-> M "transition", so yes, that likely is not done before someone turns 18... but to say everything else is "social transition" is plain gaslighting. Permanent damage, including other body altering surgeries, are definitely happening to minors to the great financial benefit of the plastic surgeons and drug companies involved.

So which is it

It is true they're not doing the genitalia reconstruction surgery on minors. They aren't yet that bold. They are very much giving them hormones and drugs to chemically alter their growth and manipulate their bodies in often irreversible ways, however, and there is virtually no scientifically rigorous and repeatable sound data backing this as a broadly beneficial treatment, especially in children. In fact, the data seems to indicate risk of harm is much higher than any good that might result in anxiety and depression reduction long term. It has zero to negative effects on suicide rates, an allegation often used to bully parents into conformity and blow past social objections. This is a cultish political movement of selfishness identity politics juxtaposed with destructive hyper empathy.

I believe that this was generally true 20-30 years ago.

But, then Libs/Dems realized that they could make lots of money doing transitions on anybody and everybody while also rallying their base to "The Trans Cause" and voting "Team Blue". Then all this went in the trash and they went after kids because they are generally dumb and confused. Dems/Libs are Evil and Greedy.
