RFK can be an oddball on some things, but he's right on target here.

Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Utah and West Virginia are the first of at least 18 states to enact waivers prohibiting the purchase of certain foods through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.

It's part of a push by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to urge states to strip foods regarded as unhealthy from the $100 billion federal program -- long known as food stamps -- that serves 42 million Americans.

"We cannot continue a system that forces taxpayers to fund programs that make people sick and then pay a second time to treat the illnesses those very programs help create," Kennedy said in a statement in December.

SNAP should only get you access to the unprocessed foods in the grocery store - vegetables, fruits, meats, cheeses, dairy, rice, beans.

Think of it as a "bread line" to borrow the Soviet term, where you dont have to wait for hours, it's not just bread, it's always in stock, and you can feed your family with the basics, which by the way are more healthy to raise a family on anyway. It's insane that candy, soda, chips, crackers, cereal (most of them, anyway), and other things like that were able to be purchased in the first place.

It should be sufficient to feed a family with hearty ingredients and meaningful calories, but not enough where you make competitive tik tok videos on how much "free" food you were able to purchase on someone else's dime.

I'm over here budgeting and cooking from scratch in today's economy. We work hard and have enough money, but grocery prices are appalling and so I am trying to stretch our dollar plus reduce our processed food intake.

I am so done with anyone complaining that they somehow deserve coke or chips. You do not deserve a treat even though you are poor. Not when hardworking people are denying themselves treats and paying for your food as well.

A thought experiment: the astronauts resort to stillin they junk food, so all that junk gets locked up like spray paint at Home Depot and you have to ask an employee to unlock your HoHos and escort you to the register. Then even employed fatties will think twice before buying trash food. Everyone starts to stop eating trash food.

I guess I'm wondering where the problem is?

Junk foods for SNAP recipients is a double whammy.
1. People on SNAP ingest inadequate nutrition.
2. The same people develop diseases such as diabetes and obesity that will endanger their health.

What ever the situation the taxpayer will foot the bill

In watching the videos, I am struck by the, "I should be able to buy with my food stamps whatever I want to buy."


They aren't your food stamps - they are 'ours' and YOU aren't buying anything, the American taxpayers are. Kill the program and go back to distributing food commodities to those in need.
