Immigration lawyers are warning that federal agencies are increasingly skeptical when migrants claim to have legitimate marriages with Americans.

The policy shift comes after President Donald Trump's deputies began cracking down on rising rates of marriage-related visa fraud by migrants who pay Americans for temporary marriages.

Quote:

While marrying a U.S. citizen has never been a locked-in guarantee that a migrant would be issued a green card, marriages have previously offered a huge boost to a migrant's request for legal status. But that may be changing as immigration attorneys are finding that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) are giving such marriages much closer scrutiny than ever before.
Immigration attorney Brad Bernstein of Spar & Bernstein is warning his clients that marrying a U.S. citizen is no longer the near-guarantee of legal residence for foreign nationals, NDTV reported.
One new wrinkle in requests for marriage-related green cards is residency. The Trump administration is prioritizing a shared domicile for the migrant and the U.S. citizen, a requirement that was not prioritized in the past. Bernstein says.

Quote:

Immigration officers do not care why you live apart, and they do not care if it's for work, school, money, or convenience," the attorney added.
"So, if you're not living in the same house every day, immigration is going to start questioning the marriage. And once they question it, they're investigating, and once they come knocking on your door, they're looking to deny you. So, if you want a marriage green card, you live together. Period," he explained.

Well, it's a start, I guess.

Do other countries routinely grant legal status as the spouse of a local citizen?

Almost all other countries are WAY harsher, and more logical, with protecting their borders.

Well done Trump.

Now do us all a favor and cancel H1B and OPT.

I know I know... it is too soon but I would like to see it happen some day.

And yes, tariff all offshored jobs 50%. I know many Boomers here will squeal but do it anyway.

Rethought that. EU doesn't allow their members to enforce their borders.

But the EU can't force member nations to grant citizenship, I think? The immigrants can't vote can they?

Most countries, including the EU countries, are very strict with citizenship. I don't think the EU has any guidelines around it, but I don't know.

For example, in Germany, it requires several years of legal residency, speaking the language, and a host of other things, including proving that are making a stable living and don't require government social services. They don't want people becoming citizens unless they have been well integrated into German society for several years. This is a fairly normal set of requirements. Especially the requirement to integrate within society as a condition of naturalization.

The EU treats the nations in the EU much like states within the US with regards to border crossing. Getting into the EU requires passport, but once you're in you can generally move about freely between all the countries. I don't know about visa requirements for working there, I imagine each country has their own set of rules around that

Passport from which country? With no visa for a visit? That doesn't jive with recent reporting in the last several years.

US passport gets you in without a visa if you're just visiting for tourism/vacation to most countries. A lot of countries have agreements like this for tourism.

Sham marriages for immigration status have always been illegal. Some administrations have just enforced it more strictly than others. This administration is just warning that they're going to enforce it strictly this time.

You misunderstood my question. I was referring to the Muslim invasion of Europe from Africa. Those migrants didn't have passports from their home countries for the most part.

Ah, yes, I misunderstood. I was talking EU borders in general, not the Muslim invasion. EU is committing suicide right now
