What's the alternative plan?
Until there is one, Obamacare should stay.
The alternative plan for health insurance is the same plan for life insurance, disability insurance, renter's insurance, auto insurance, and homeowner's insurance. If you want any or all of them, you contact an insurance agent and purchase what you want.
The government should not be involved in insurance. We are already broke, already overdrawn, and obamacare should die on the vine.
Does that include crop and flood insurance that the taxpayers subsidize?
I'll take a shot at it.
Life, disability, renters, auto, health, and homeowners are all individual risks. If you want insurance, buy it.
Flood insurance is more of a group risk. When floods occur, more than one is affected and potentially many, but nowhere near all. If that group wants insurance, they should buy it.
Crop insurance and food subsidy programs are tied to universal risk. We all need to eat to survive. No one needs the individual or group insurance mentioned above to survive. But we all need food.
In that vein, government should stay out of individual and group risks.
For food insurance -- as a universal benefit like national defense -- there's a strong case to be made for the government to support the underlying foundation so we don't all go hungry.
