As I went out today, to HEB and elsewhere, I was inundated by campaign signs for local elections. I got to thinking "Rob, you're friggin' awesome!" which, of course, is true. ; - ) But whilst realizing that fact, all of the signs made me think that - maybe - we have too many elections, in total. I couldn't tell you a single thing about any of the candidates here in San Antonio other than I have zero craps to give about them, or these elections. I'm overwhelmed by a sense of malaise locally and otherwise, politically.

1) Most of the time, it's a choice between a **** sammich and a turd taco. Rarely is there an actual conservative to vote for.

2) There is barely a time that we're allowed to NOT get mailers, ads, signs, etc - asking us to vote for this moron, or that moron, or how that moron is worse than our moron, etc - in between elections. This has given me a feeling of antipathy towards any election.

3) It seems that, regardless of which party is in power, govt continues to grow more powerful...and not in a good way.

Should we have fewer elections to assuage this type of thing { as I'm sure it isn't only affecting me } or is the status quo good OR should we have even more elections to quickly get morons out of office where needed?

I fear to open my mail box. It is full of 5x7 Postcard flyers for some candidate or another.

I'm with you, Rob. I have no interest in the coming election because of all the mud slinging and lies, especially among Republican candidates. I refuse to participate in it and am willing to let the chips fall where they may. I don't give a s##t about any of them. I've got better things to do with my time.

We have elections frequently enough. About the only reform to the number of elections I would entertain is lifting the 435 seat cap on the House of Representatives. I'd rather set a fixed number of constituents per district. But I'm not exactly going to start a petition or anything.

Oh and petitions and referendums are something we should get rid of.

The large majority of elected positions on the ballot each year are for judges that only about 5% or less of people know a damn thing about.

Funny you mention those political info advertisements being everywhere…

My wife and I voted this weekend. I had mentioned to her that they seem to be more of a payback contract to key supports through political info handouts.

The materials are alway high dollar glossy, multi colored, good card stock…..probably the most expensive options to buy.

Someone is making serious cash off printing that stuff…..

But as a self-professed Mexihonky, do you choose the sammich or the taco? Which side wins?

All Elections should be in November. These odd one off Elections always help democrats , especially local ones. Yes, it's our ( conservatives) fault for not voting but if they were a specific month, more of us would make sure to vote.

This has been on my mind lately. The average rep has 760,000 constituients. The largest is Deleware with almost a million, and Montana is closer to half a million. None of that is local representation.

As to the original question, one thing we could do is quit hiding local elections/constitutional amendments in May and just hold everything in November.

Ranked voting could eliminate the need for runoffs particularly in the primary. It would be really interesting to see it in the Republican Senate race this year.

I don't know if I support term limits. But I do support age limit similar to what we do with Judges. Nobody over 70 should be able to run for office regardless of party.

In reference to the current election, one problem is the open primary system. The party seems to have limited control and it seems like any idiot who can pay an election fee can run. I'm all for the old smoke-filled room system where the party can pick the candidate. Then if the conservatives control the party, they get bona fide conservative candidates, or at least someone as conservative as they think they can get in a particular race. Or we can go to a more objective measure like a free throw shooting contest.

We do not need 100 races on one ballot. Nobody is actually going to research them all.

Fewer. However, these campaigns have become a multi billion dollar business in not just the TV revenue it produces but also the amount of advertisement by mail that it generates.
