Perfect response and not at all political. Lot's of lefties were assuming he motivations were political. He has a newborn at home in Dallas with limited time to spend.

I wonder how many of the people supporting the women's team skipping the WH and SOTU have watched even a minute of women's hockey in their entire lives?

His Stars contract is worth $66mm over eight years...so money is no issue.
I'm not second guessing anyone here. Just sayin' I'd be with the team in the oval office - with Trump and at the joint session. He'll never ever get that opportunity again. Chauffeurs and private jets to manage the inconvenience.

He'll never get another chance to go to the SOTU. Did you never take a hunting or fishing trip with your buddies or family when your kids were little? This is the same thing, but on an insurmountably bigger scale.
To each his own, but don't act like this invitation is something any of these players will ever get again.
ETA: my wife would've supported it at the time.

I just don't think most of the hockey players could give 2 ****s about attending the SOTU. Hopefully in a few months he will get an invitation to the White House, which is the result of what I know all hockey players want.

He is most decidedly NOT a lefty.
His decision had nothing to do with politics, period.

I would have no interest in going to a sotu. But a whitehouse visit would be cool no matter who is president
Back in 2012, MSNBC attacked an American hockey player for choosing not to visit the White House under Obama, arguing White House visits for champions were standard & not the time to play politics. Now the entire Democrat party argues the exact opposite: pic.twitter.com/GHAgJE7qDm
