What are trustworthy sources on X or elsewhere that post reliable information that's grounded in facts about the war situation?

No AI videos. No old videos framed as new ones. No video game clips etc.

If one wants to actually understand what's happening, where do you look?

CNN or MSNBC.

You follow the good ones and then only watch your "Following" section. It's a curated list that you must revise and there's no way of getting everything weeded out though because the speed at which breaking stories/videos emerge reduces the vetting as everybody wants to be the breaking news/video source

But seriously I check texags. I swear the conservative and liberal posters here debunk each other quite a bit.

A lot more the former because you must never let designed false narratives to flourish

The truth? You have to piece it together yourself and have a critical eye towards everyone including our own government. There is simply too much going on too fast with too many competing interests to really know from your keyboard. it's also a very fluid situation that is changing in real time. The best thing is to have a good understanding of Iran geopolitically and historically and then look at the news being received through that lens, if Iran has regime change it will be the most dramatic shift in global affairs since the Soviet Union fell though.

Tactically I get a lot of my information from X and do a self filter and verification.

For the short term comparing the advertised narrative vs the lessons from history might be your only guiding light.

At least until we find a reliable way to vet information. So many things were and are a manipulated right now. Not to mention the psyops from various governments being run against us. Hell before deepfakes and AI we normally didn't get the real story for a few decades.

As for myself I am becoming much more religious than I was earlier in life. I rejected so much when younger as unsophisticated mysticism, that I know see as deep wisdom and required for any type of hope of making things better. Christian Faith was and is more valuable than I previously thought.

But with that said I think many of my fellow Christians are not seeing things the way I am seeing them.

Sadly the answer is probably Russia Today - knowing that it's obviously going to be propagandized.

Because CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, BBC, etc. is also all propaganda.

I kind of like Sky News but, do get tired of the Brits who don't understand the USA.

So, as Aggie93 said - you kind of have to piece the truth together yourself.

You actually make a good point.

Reading the news from Russian, Indian, ME, etc will if nothing else give you stories not being covered here.

Edit

The Times of India and Al Jazeera have run stories in the past I thought should have been covered here. Both have english available.

Assume it is all propaganda, then read everyone's propaganda.

Many will confirm parts of the story they feel insignificant to a narrative and the confirmations of pieces are helpful. Ultimately you distil it down to one or two key issues and have to make an educated guess - with the caveat that "educated guess" should carry genuine humility, not just cynicism. Cynicism can become its own lazy shortcut, where contrarian takes feel more sophisticated than they actually are.

Trusted experts have historically just been people from whom you borrow your own confidence - not that they were ever experts, they just had the benefit of having already done the breakdown and synthesis of stories for you either by large, honest networks of resources are vetting eyewitnesses themselves.

Covid was the death knell for "expert opinions" with many coming to the realization it was just paid propaganda for many. Pretty much every news org today leads with the unvetted breaking news, true or not, just to get the viewers first. Might not be a fair take for all news to call it propaganda, but it is, at best, just laziness, speed pressure, and narrative bias rather than deliberate manipulation.

Well said. The de facto vetting process here is pretty damn efficient.

I don't try to actually understand whats happening. That takes up way too much time and effort for something that is constantly changing and impossible to keep up with. Thats just me.

Dave Smith podcast if you want up to date info on anti-war arguments.

White House press briefings if you want updates on pro war news and arguments.

Most only want to plug into whatever reinforces their bias, on both sides. Probably the biggest problem in this country.

France24 is another one I like when I'm traveling overseas.

And one you can find on PBS here is NHK World from Japan.
I love their 10 minute world news coverage every hour.

Back when the US news outlets turned full TDS, Japanese news from NHK was refreshing to watch.

I've learned a lot from some of the liberal posters here and have actually used that information in forming my opinion. Lots of times I don't agree with it, but I appreciate the sourcing and arguments.

Its pretty easy to see what's real or fake. If theres a video, many times the second post in an x thread is someone asking grok to fact check it.

I've weeded out most hysterical tweeters, those overly biased in any general direction, and follow mostly experts in the field.

I still get fooled sometimes, but its not that hard to do a little fact checking before bringing it to TA

At this point, I don't trust anything I view on a screen....TV, phone, anything.

The only things that are really real are what you can see with your naked eyes...wait, I forgot about the trans.

the thing you need to understand about Twitter is that the verification system and payout structure incentivizes accounts to gain your attention and interaction above telling you the truth.

case in point, the revelation last year that a lot of "American" political commentators and indie journalists were larper engagement farmers from the global south.

combine that with the fact this is a rapidly changing and dynamic situation and your only real recourse is to either not use Twitter at all, or treat everything you read there with skepticism.

When you see a video posted that is suspect or a statement that seems far-fetched check the replies, someone always asks Grok to verify and he answers back if it is AI generated or a legit video and will fact check posts

There is only one truth.....it can be found from Genesis to Revelation.

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and will declare to you the things that are to come.
