Serious question. We have superior firepower. We could sink every boat in their navy.

Their navy isn't/wasn't the problem.

They have a **** ton of Silkworm missile launches all over the place for one reason, to shut down the straight.

I'm sure we're trying to take them out, but at least some are smaller and more mobile then their SRBM launchers.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Trump is clear about the objectives and controlling the straight is not one of them

We dont fully control the Strait of Hormuz because it serves little to no strategic importance for the beginning of an attack on Iran. It may look small but isnt and is sandwiched between Iran, Oman and UAE.

We have eliminated the Iranian navy and airforce. Patience while we disassemble the IRGC along with their missiles and drones

Iran HAD silkworms. They fired them in 1988. We intercepted. Reagan gave them an out to say it was a mistake, or we declare war against them. So they backed. off.

There are still lots of ways Iran can target ships in the strait and it will take time to pacify them. Also, it's not a question of CAN a tanker make it through unscathed, its will an owner take the risk

Not every ship, yet. However, they are dead in the water as is and serve very little to no threat. We are hunting them now.

It's their drones that are the problem. They are also heavily jamming navigation signals. Tankers are big targets and totally defenseless. The drones Iran developed are very cheap and easy to build.

If China would like to secure their oil supplies, maybe they should be on the hook for policing the straights.

The Straight Straits of Hormuz being inoperative is not all that bad a thing for our interests.

For fossil fuels, it's good. For just about anything else, not so much.

It hurts China. Not a priority.

Strait. Strait of Hormuz. I get it that people are in a hurry and just let Siri pick the word. Take an extra second to proofread before posting. Thanks.

Strait is the more common and correct. Though it's no sin to say straits unless doing so puts one in such dire ones.

Also, if it conveys the intended meaning than spelling and grammar and the like are just rules / formalities that actually restrict the natural development of languages.

The written word has limited the spoken word in many ways.

Some folks should take some time and watch the 36 episode course on linguistics and then they may have learnt something.

Ding! Ding!

We don't get our oil through the strait but China, India and other Asian countries do.
