Pulled from X:

"The 3 police officers that heroically stopped the Senegalese mass shooter that opened fire on a bar in Austin, are being forced to stand before a Grand Jury to consider whether or not charges should be brought against them for stopping the shooter.

Apparently, due to a criminal justice reform organization called "the Wren Collective" the DA is required to consider charges every single time a police officer uses force.

Per @DouglasOConnell, "the DA completely controls the Grand Jury & decides what evidence they see and what they're prohibited from seeing"

These officers should be hailed as heroes, not only for their incredibly fast response time (57 seconds) but also for risking their lives to take down this shooter."

I hope they don't apply this rule to stopping a school shooting, because this type of policy is how you get a bunch of people killed'

This is how you have Good Officers Quit and leave your terribly run city.

Why should you work in a city where you are obviously not wanted or appreciated ? ? Why should you risk being thrown under a bus because some politician needs a issue for their campaign ? ?

It isn't uncommon to present OIS to grand jury, I know this happens in Brazos County. It allows the DA to say "he was no billed, this is officially closed". I highly doubt this happens "every time an officer uses force", even in Austin.

Wow... Austin really is ****ed, and is a glimpse of what this state will become with all the carpetbaggers moving here.

This is common practice state wide... they should absolutely be no billed.

That's the idea. Then they get loyal party apparatchiks to fill those spots.

Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.

Then you don't know Austin. I called this immediately after it happened. Jose Garza is an absolute a-hole. The sad thing is Travis County had two good options in the last primary and general election. They passed on both and returned this idiot to office.

"These officers are heroes, and it should go without saying that my office is not seeking any charges and would not seek charges," Garza said in the release. "The accounts to the contrary are false, intentionally false, and are being peddled for obvious political purposes."

While it is Garza's decision to present officer shooting cases to a grand jury, it is up to the grand jury to decide if the officers possibly committed criminal conduct and should be indicted. Garza's statement does not make clear if his office would still present the case to a grand jury, which has been the DA's policy since he took office in 2021, even though it will not pursue charges.

While common to present the case if there is any question, it is not common or sane to present a case as clear cut and open and shut as this.

So the Lbs/Dems want to make the Police Dept a Jobs Program. Hire a bunch of idiots, losers and DEI types that their only qualifications for City LEO is being a reliable Dem/Lib voter.

Sounds like a great plan to ruin a city and turn it into a Detroit or Baltimore type hellscape.

Other than seeing the Capital, which is a beautiful and magnificent architecture. Why bother ever driving or flying into Austin much less Travis County. Place needs the Sodom and Gomorrah treatment.

As much as I do enjoy food. No place is worth visiting just for food. Especially, if I'm going to be charged as a criminal for protecting my family. Thank the heavens Houston hasn't become Austin. Not yet at least.

I know of some land for sale in Centerville Texas. Makes sense to have the Capital of Texas sitting in the middle of the two largest cities in Texas.

I think most OIS are sent to the grand jury for review. It's a way to absolve the DA of any responsibility.

I've said this for years, Fort Worth is Austin 40-50 years ago. The food, art, entertainment and an increasing number of blue hairs.
