That said I still have no regrets moving to more glass food storage containers. My dinner leftovers come to work with me in Pyrex.

I eat healthier than 99% of Americans but I drink water out of plastic water bottles I buy in flats. Why? Because I like the convenience of grabbing them on the go. I think I'll take my chances compared to what I see others shoving in their grocery carts at HEB. I figure I'm doing better than the person who fills up half their cart with chips and Dr Pepper… even with the microplastics from my bottled water.

I ingested a lot of water in bottles that had been sitting on pallets that were baking in the desert heat with no protection for weeks on end. Drinking water that is so hot you can only sip it because it literally burns your throat and having a chemical taste so strong you could smell it wafting from the bottle. It was like drinking a bottle of industrial cleaner.

When the hoof started growing in, I think about those water bottles a lot.

The other half of the story. Almost all of the research in this field had already been discredited in the last year or so. The way they test for plastics is using combustion. Only one problem - turns out when you combust lipids, they were testing out as plastics.


Literally years of research already invalidated even before this gloves fiasco.


Remember research is generally about getting published, not finding "truths".

Sounds like me drinking out of the hose for the better part of my childhood in the TX heat. Or drinking out of the hose-fed pvc water station (ifykyk) all though Jhigh and high school two-a-days. It is what it is.

That said, I genuinely appreciate your service and am in no way equating my experience to yours other than consuming a lot of water from hot, nasty, petro-chem sources..

I heard Huberman talking about intermittent fasting. He knew the guy who did some of the first research. The interval the researcher chose was based on how long he was allowed to stay at the lab by his girlfriend. So he wrote the paper using that interval. Other intervals may be better but that's the one everyone cites and uses all because his GF was pissed he spent too much time at the lab. I have other, not as funny, stories of things like drug dosages that are taken as gospel now but started as someone going "welp, let's see if this works"

I drank countless hundreds of gallons of water from containers that have quietly been removed from the market when it was discovered that they leach bisphenyls. I have breathed deeply air filled with nitrosamines from 1970-80s new cars that emitted them like an air freshener in the summer sunlight from vinyl upholstery. I caught a lung full of carburetor cleaner as the engine backfired while I was spraying it into the barrels. I consumed months worth of food from plastic MRE wrappers and heated that food with sodium carbide reacting with water and lived in spaces where Ba'athist building codes and materials were used. I get lots of reminders from the VA telling me to be sure to register my chemical exposures under the PACT Act.

I just can't get that concerned about microplastic exposure and food dyes at my age.

Asia. They are horrible at managing their trash and particularly plastic trash. 90% of global ocean plastics in the oceans comes from Asian nations that throw it out randomly and it washes into their river systems and into the ocean. Disgusting ethics regarding personally and collective responsibility for dumping garbage.
