Just caught a video by Blancolirio highlighting a not news incident at LAX. We often discuss at great length the politics and culture when there's a tragic accident, but this is an example of the systems of in place working as they should and a catastrophe NOT happening.

Air France was cleared for takeoff. A Gulfstream that had just landed on the parallel runwaywas instructed to hold short of the adjacent runway before continuing their taxi. They did hold, but they did cross the official hold short line. Air France had begun their takeoff roll when the automated system detected the potential runway incursion, and illuminated red lights to Air France who immediately aborted their takeoff.

Mistakes happen... But the protections and layers worked this time. Kudos to all.

It is important to celebrate the successes. They are routine but rarely make the news. Similar to thwarted terrorist events, they are not news but the tragedy was averted. Thank you for sharing!

Taking the kids to Disney 20 years ago. Daughter at this point had thrown up on every flight typically during landing. We board an empty plane to North Carolina. It's our family of 5 and a random guy from Houston to NC.

We're on approach and she hasn't thrown up.

Wheels on the ground and she hasn't thrown up. The wheels are down for a few seconds and the pilot punches it and takes off again and she starts hurling.

Captain comes on to apologize that another plane decided to cross in front of us and he didn't want to t-bone them.

Scary!

Airlines need to buy a $25 dash cam, just for these situations. ; )

I'm reminded of a comment that the late Scott Adams made about engineering.

If you do your job wrong, people could die.

If you do your job right, you could get a nice plaque to hang in your office.
