Ditto - I moved back in 2002. The weather is indescribably wonderful. and I LOVED the hiking and being able to snow ski in 90 minutes.

What's funny, if you go to Spokane (or most places on the east side of Washington), they think Seattle is just as crazy as we do.

During the height of covid, I was having to visit Spokane. I'd gotten on an elevator, and this dude pointed to a sign about wearing masks and said....'they should take those down, we're on the side of Washington with normal people". That seemed to be the general consensus of the area.

Her parents paid her bills into her 40's. Like a lot of people that have things paid for them (trust fund brats, Europeans regarding their own defense, etc.) she doesn't have an appreciation of where the money comes from that subsidizes their lifestyle.

Yep, she's a truly sheltered liberal. It's rare to see one that pure honestly. She never experienced any hardship or had to work and really thinks the most important people in the world go to some small Liberal Arts school and get stoned everyday majoring in Art History or something and never work (and I use the term work very generously) more than 30 hours a week so they can find their peace and do whatever they want to do. People who do actual work, especially blue collar work, are basically invisible to her or she has no comprehension of them.

Folks like her are incredibly dangerous. She literally has the mind of a 10 year old.

T&P for NYC and SEA. This feels like the opening of Shot Caller where the guy is getting sent off to prison. You know already he's going to suffer, lose basically all that he loves, and come back a radically different person.

Both of those great cities have permanent geographic & demographic anchors, so they're sure to persevere eventually. But I believe it'll be a long road -- at least a decade -- before they rediscover any kind of solid footing.

But the upside is that they can serve as cautionary lessons for other cities. And states. And nations. Along those lines, I'm really hoping things advance/evolve/devolve as quickly as possible so that these mistakes don't propagate to the state or federal level before the bills (literally) come due.

An underrated shift in the Left from the 60's until now is the move from people that felt the need to go out and try to "make a difference" that were basically just naive but they would actually do things like join the Peace Corps or teach in Inner City schools or something to the belief that protesting and "raising awareness" were the most important things. They don't actually want to do the work and get involved personally outside of some virtue signal volunteering or something. "The Big Chill" is a great movie that showed the old mentality and how they became cynical as they grew up and realized the world is more complicated.

People like this idiot never grow up and never had to actually try to solve problems. They just live in lala land and think they are better people because they "care" more and "speak truth to power" with a constant reinforcement loop from their friends and listening to NPR.
