that was my guess too. I know Boering was a big theater kid/Hollywood wannabe, so they did the whole Production company thing, but it made zero sense.
I have watched Walsh's docs, which are brilliant, but tried the Pendragon thing and it was utterly unwatchable. Have never done any of the kids programming for my kids, and have literally spoken to nobody who has either. It was always a head scratcher.
The Pendragon Cycle was great.
At best it is niche. I really wanted to like it but barely got through the first episode. Had some cool scenes but the story was extremely hard to follow and they had all kinds of blending of back and forth and dream sequences and I just was done. I'm a huge GOT and well done fantasy fan but it came across as something that appeals only to a hardcore Arthur legend fan or something.
More importantly it was a massive expense and distraction for years that was well outside the lines of what they are best at. There is so much good content they could make movies about on Biblical stories or history and they went huge with Pedragon.
Bentkey was another huge flop. I remember when they started it Boering talked about what a huge $100 million bet it was and that it could kill the company. Well. I think the concept was decent but they went way too big and way too fast and made it all at an extra cost basically to sample it. That's just not how it works. The way to do it is to start smaller with a few shows that are free at first and build viewership while seeing what works and what doesn't. Instead they basically decided to go all in and assume that their brand was strong enough to get people to sign up without really getting to know the product.
All the other stuff is just noise, though losing Peterson and Cooper hurt. Candace turning into a complete psycho was unfortunate and they also had the dustup with Crowder. Still a lot of strong base to work from but they have definitely taken some licks. Need to get back to fundamentals and what their customers want.
Oh, and I'm a subscriber.
