I think the glory days of Meta are over. I have gotten calls from them over the years and for some reason I did not respond and later repented. The ones who joined made a lot of money and had a fancy name on their resumes. But now things are winding down for Meta. Zuckerberg's only great initiative was Facebook. He managed to launch something innovative for 2006. A high school crush of mine found me and got in touch in 2010. I got in touch with many former classmates, it was a great time. But 20 years later, it is just the olds like myself on it. None of my kids or their friends are on Facebook. No one posts personal things anymore, and no one cares if they do either. I just use if for some interest groups I am part of like Ghost Signs, History, etc.

All his successes after that have been through acquisitions like Instagram. He tried Metaverse and failed. Some VR glasses failed. his Super Intelligence team is floundering. He lost the AI race to Google and Anthropic.

Zuck treats his employees like disposable trash. My son is starting a new job in the Bay Area and he told me he was avoiding Amazon and Meta. None of his friends interviewed there or want to go there. One friend who is at Amazon hates it. My nephew is at Meta in the Bay, he is scared for his job.

A reboot of the Bay Area is underway.
But we still need H1Bs as Americans have no skills, amirite Mr CEO?

The day that Meta employees have dreaded for a month is here.

Emails have begun going out to roughly 10% of Meta's 78,000 employees, notifying them that they are being laid off. The notifications are being sent in three waves at 4 a.m. local time on May 20 across different regions, according to a memo that Meta HR chief Janelle Gale sent to an employee resource group on Monday.
The layoffs are expected to eliminate around 8,000 roles. Employees working in Meta's Integrity, cybersecurity, and content design teams are among those impacted so far, according to two sources and public posts.
US employees will receive a severance package including 16 weeks or four months in base pay, plus two weeks for every year of continuous employment, according to an internal document seen by Business Insider.
They'll also get 18 months of healthcare coverage for themselves and their families triple the previous amount as Business Insider previously reported.
Impacted employees outside the US will receive similar packages that vary by country.
Fintech company Block recently gave recently laid-off employees 20 weeks of salary plus one additional week per year of tenure and six months of healthcare. Amazon gave staff three months of full pay and healthcare benefits, plus an additional severance package.
In the Monday memo, HR chief Gale added that managerial positions would be cut across the company to create flatter organizational structures.
"We're now at the stage where many orgs can operate with a flatter structure with smaller teams of pods/cohorts that can move faster and with more ownership," she wrote.
Employees in the US were instructed to work from home on Wednesday, according to an internal message viewed by Business Insider.
Meta didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

I do not understand the current generations love for Instagram over FB. IG, when I do see organic content is memes or simple a pic since captions are essentially non-existent on that platform. I want context with photos.

Both have behind overrun with ads and suggested content vs organically created content from those we choose to friend/follow.

I know it's a slippery slope of privacy and social pressure to keep up with a cultivated image life, but it was nice to see where friend and their families were on vacation, see ball l kids sports, graduation photos, and of course the never to be forgotten slots on Halloween.

The entire platform is a hollow shell of what it was created to be. It's no wonder it's circling the drain.

I wish I could fail as successfully as Zuckerberg. Just 0.1% of his net worth would be fine with me.
