ETA - forgot the primary link -- https://www.foxnews.com/outkick-analysis/supergirl-pre-release-tracking-looks-disastrously-bad-hollywood-lead-actress-bizarre-comments

DC (comics) is following the trails blazed by Disney with their franchises, Supergirl's lead actress blasting potential customers for not supporting her political feminist views.

Milly Alcock gave an interview claiming she's been the target of criticism for "simply existing as a woman" in a superhero movie.

Then she raised the ante in a Variety interview - "Milly Alcock's Supergirl Interview: Sexism, Superheroes, and More."

More recently she claimed the moral high ground :"she's "pi***** off" the right people, including those who identify as a "Christian" and "Dad."

TBH, going to see a Supergirl (or Superman) film in person at a theater will never be on my bingo card.

Entitled prima donnas , complaining about their struggles and opposing political beliefs is beyond stupid. SHUT UP, focus on entertaining and maybe your movie won't lose the $100,000,000's now projected.

ETA - and the studios that allow this to happen deserve closing. Idiots, all of them.

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Maybe there was something to that gilded age of Hollywood when actors and actresses signed with a particular studio and your every public assistance was a studio choreographed and scripted event

I think it was a Nerdrotic podcast or review where he said if an actor starts to hear the words "pissing off the right people" they should know their project is screwed.

I can guarantee any criticism she perceives is due to her ineptitude as an actress and has nothing to do with her being a woman or "existing".

The Romans had the correct view of actors. Placed in the same category with prostitutes.

I think this is more due to the fact that I think James Gunn has lost his fastball. Guardians of the Galaxy was fantastic. However, he has put out mostly garbage since taking over DC.

He started it with an R rated cartoon that sucked. He carried over Peacemaker from old DCU which was pretty damn good in its first season under previous management, but it's very R rated. I stopped watching the second season under Gunn after a full blown, pointless orgy with gross looking people happened in E1 or E2.

His actual big kickoff though - Superman - was a really bad movie. I just didn't enjoy it all. I actually thought the Supergirl previews were pretty intriguing and better than the Superman previews. Was never going to watch it in theaters, but would definitely rent it.

The best thing going in DCU right now is Matt Reeves Batman which Gunn has nothing to do with other than being the executive over it. If you haven't seen Reeve's Batman or the Penguin, you've missed some great stuff.

I have really had enough of girl power movies and shows. It's getting hard to find a male lead action flick anymore. Sure, there are some pretty good woman fighters out there, but the absurd level of capability that Hollywood wants us to believe is just silly and frankly I think it might even be dangerous.

Generally speaking, woman have more issues with self-image than men do and constantly telling them they can be badasses out there beating up men, isn't going to be helpful.

I watched the Gina Carano vs Ronda Rousey fight the other night because my wife is suddenly into boxing, and all I could think about after that 17 second disappointment was that either of the two men in the fight before them would have murdered either of them if not both at the same time.

Prostitutes had more respect than actors in Rome. Even low classes were not permitted to certain brothels even with coin.
There is only one constant, one universal, it is the only real truth: causality. Action. Reaction. Cause and effect.

I mean even in her prime Ronda said she couldn't beat the guys in lower weight classes, much less heavier classes. But that fight wasn't meant to be an exhibit of skill, it was two names to draw a crowd and that's what it did.

It looks like a generic version of a Guardian's of the Galaxy movie, but way worse.

Which is horrible, because the concept was great, and then the actress they got has acting skills to spare. BUT, unlike with The Man of Steel last summer, the idiots at DC decided to do everything possible to ruin what should have been a slam dunk great movie.

I went to the theater to watch Superman last summer. I'll be surprised if I even watch this one free when it comes out on HBO.

Edit to fix something (movie name), because this is F16 after all and we have rules-ish.

Man of Steel was the Henry Cavill Superman movie and far, far superior to "Superman" which is what you saw last year.

Please do not conflate the two.

Okay well, still, last year's was at least entertaining. You're right, it was no Man of Steel, but compared to the crap that's come out in the past few years, it wasn't that bad.

And now to go and correct my post. Thanks for the catch.

"Consume the Slop

Digest the Narrative

I truly believe they've figured out how to "Producers" style launder money from flopping films there just doesn't seem like any other explanation besides insanity to just keep doing this same failed formula again and again

Captain Obvious moment.

If this movie bombs, and it seems likely it will, don't blame boys. Don't.

It's called Supergirl.

Blame girls.

Hollywood still can't seem to grasp this.

Sure, but I don't think that changes my point. Hollywood is disingenuous with their unrealistic portrayal of women. Remember all the uproar from feminists about Barbie dolls and skinny models giving unhealthy portrayals of idealistic women? Seems to me this is the same just in a different direction.

The occasional superhero girl or over-the-top portrayal is fine, but we are swamped with this garbage now. If I have to see one more preview of M.I.A.....

While I agree with your point, I don't think it necessarily applies here. Supergirl has been a thing for decades. It's actually one of the very few legitimate girl power examples because it's from a comic book which is about the only way it would happen. It's just coming out in an environment that has long since been flooded with unrealistic examples of girl power with backdrop of reality.

IOW, if this came out in a vacuum without the surrounding toxic left wing politics then no one would care.

Is this the movie we're talking about?

Just watched that trailer and it looks horrible. There's a simple formula for summer blockbusters: awesome fight scenes and lots of explosions with some witty dialogue/humor baked in. Most people going to a comic book movie don't want to pay money to watch some emo character "find her people" or "discover her place in the universe." Cut all that crap out and focus on making a good action movie, and people will show up.

When you make a movie that only appeals to a small niche audience, don't be surprised when only that tiny niche audience shows up to see it. And certainly don't blame others for not shelling out their hard-earned money to watch something you should have known from the beginning they wouldn't be interested in.

There is a lot of truth to what you're saying. Make a good movie and people will see it.

But look at Furiosa. It was the prequel to Mad Max Fury Road. Furiosa is objectively a great movie. I highly recommend it in all seriousness. I tried to get my sons, 18 and 15 at the time, to see it in the theater. They had no interest. I eventually saw it on tv. And loved it.

Per wiki, on a budget of $168M it grossed $174M, much of which came from Australia (for obvious reasons). That's an utter financial failure.

This was the summer of 2024 at the absolute height of DEI madness and girl boss/girl power. Boys/men, in general, were simply fatigued by it. They passed. The summer before was even worse. I think The Marvels was the biggest box office loss in history. Again, superhero girl boss movie.

Boys like what they like. What they are hard wired to like. Same for girls. It's not a hard concept, it never was. That doesn't mean you can't have some crossover. Girls can like action, adventure, sci-fi, etc. But it's the exception not the rule. Just basic natural order stuff. Hollywood can fight it all it wants but ultimately nature will always win.
