I haven't seen any reporting on this, but yesterday the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously voted to move forward on a bipartisan bill which would give Federal judges permission to allow photography, recording, and broadcast of federal court proceedings. Would be in the discretion of the judge on a case-by-case basis.

As of today there are no cameras allowed in federal courtrooms and recording of online court proceedings is strictly prohibited.

I think this would be a positive step toward transparency.

This is highly relevant to my interests.
It takes a special kind of brainwashed useful idiot to politically defend government fraud, waste, and abuse.

Generally ok with this, but could also lead to cases where either party or the judge is playing things up for the camera. I don't feel like that is in the best interest of justice.

Not no, but hell no! You want to see trials turned into a three ring circus like the OJ trial? Bring in the cameras. They totally destroy the decorum of the courtroom as everyone involved plays to the cameras.

I like the idea of audio recordings. People often forget about hot mics whereas they don't so much with cameras.

I think the state of journalism is so bad right now that you can't really trust any reporting coming out of a courtroom. I think the benefit of openness and transparency outweigh the negative aspects.

For example, I think the public greatly benefited from the broadcast of the Rittenhouse trial. Were we to simply rely on traditional media reporting from the courtroom we would have had absolutely no idea what happened. They were printing bizarre articles throughout that trial as if they were living in a different reality.

Ha!!!

The public thinks Rittenhouse shot a black guy in the back!

Cameras in courtroom make it easier for those that want to follow follow. The "public" doesn't case are the truth.

Main reason I would not mind cameras in federal court is easier to hold the imperious black robed federal district court judges accountable. These judges are out of control.

Bingo - Didn't SC Justice Brandeis himself coin the phrase "sunshine is the best disinfectant"?

It's a universal axiom - applies to the courtroom too

True, but those judges just won't allow the cameras!
