Thinking about getting my MBA as my employer wants me to have business experience/education as I move towards the executive level. Currently in construction with a BS from A&M.

Anyone have experience with SMU's online program?

Many of our clients are SMU grads. I figured it be wise to leverage that schools network and cache, especially in the real estate/construction industry throughout Texas.

Im pretty skeptical of any online MBA. The value comes partly from the interaction with other students and profs. Seems like you should at least do an executive MBA program where you meet in person on weekends. Seems like Ive seen ads for an SMU executive MBA program before.

Noted. This program is virtual (zoom) if that makes a difference but I definitely see your point.

Looked more into the EMBA program. Very interesting and definitely something I'm know considering.

I have one. As noted, it's your cohort you gain value from. Most of the material covered is rehashed undergrad topics. The value of the program is the immediate impact of material covered to your daily job and those of your classmates and the perspective you gain from others.

We did have classmates spin off successful entrepreneurial endeavors, I did see the salary increase, and I did see the promotions.

Did you graduate from the construction science program? One of my sons is probably going to apply to that program. I figure he can do that, work for a GC for a few years and get an MBA. Then he could either go on to run his own company one day or maybe move into development. Is that kinda what you're thinking?

I'm more so doing it as part of a long term transition plan for me to run the business side operations of the company.
