My wife and our family have health insurance with her employers plan. For years the insurance was fantastic and she stayed there with low pay because of it. However now she's thinking of joining me at our family business. We don't offer health insurance.

I'm curious what it would take for us to get the coverage she has on our own. Are there any Aggies out there who are in this field and want to send me options? Health insurance is just a big and expensive mystery to me.

No help but I can tell you from the other direction.

My wife worked for our family business for 20 years and we were paying through the nose for crappy insurance.

She took a corporate job and now our insurance is way better for 1/3 of the cost.

Best bet may be to try and find a group to aggregate together and go to the market with.

As an engineering firm you may be able to do that through the state or have access to smaller firms via licensing in the state.

How does one find health insurance being self employed? I have been in the corporate world for the last 20 years, and I am starting to seriously consider striking out on my own. My biggest concern is around health care, though, as I have a family of four who are all lazy and don't work. I've tried to google to get rates, but I've found it very confusing and frankly, kind of sketchy. Every site seems to want me to sign up for something just to tell me the rates. Is healthcare.gov the best place to do this research?

Sent you an email.

Heather Moeller (and her team) at US Health Advisors are a solid group. They'll get you set up. She's an Aggie.
Wife and I use her. I'm 1099 contract and job changes are frequent so it works well for us. Recently got BCBS through a company plan because I had to offer it to our employees also but its no where near as good (atleast at our small company plan & I'll be going back to the USHA plan).

heathcare.gov is the worst place to do this.

Look into cost sharing plans. We provide Sedera for our employees. Pretty good health coverage, any doctor and pair with a MEC plan to get annual physicals.
