Quick back story. Left a company after 9 years and have given a shot with another GC and have decided to finally make an industry shift. I have 16 years total in the commercial world. Which stinks because I love building but I do have a great skillset that I feel can shift to another industry in the right organization and really shine.

Any who, I am looking for a new operational leadership role outside of the front lines of commercial construction. I do have experience in manufacturing, LEAN continuous improvement both in manufacturing and construction, safety management and lots of operational oversight and execution.

I am in the Fort Worth area. If anyone knows of any leads or has any need for solid leadership and problem solving skills, post interest or leads here. Also open to the residential world. Thanks Ags.

With your construction background, have you thought about commercial insurance? I focus on construction accounts but I had to learn from zero. You would start with a leg up knowing the industry, connections, and language.

If you like building look for a role in data centers, I am sure you could get a job with just about any of the dozens of companies building like crazy now. The industry can't keep up, there are construction, safety, PM, etc positions open everywhere.

This. Anything data center, mission critical, critical power is HOT right now.

Not sure why you're gettin out of commercial construction, but data centers / mission critical is the Wild West. People hopping around from company to company, questionable work life balance, crazy high stakes deadlines, etc.

I'm doing two right now in DFW, finishing one right now, next one finishes in January, then headed to a third we already have locked down and starting dirtwork that is twice as big as the two above combined.

I'm a GC MEP PM, and in mission critical, we currently have a 4 year backlog across data centers (as a company we have 13 going currently across Texas), and from the amount of power Oncor is bringing over the next 5 years to SE Dallas we will be doing these for at least the next 8-9 years I am being told.

Stressful yes, hard yes (I came to the GC world about 2 years ago, was an electrical sub SPM prior for 16 years) and there is $$$$ to be made in doing mission critical. Companies are throwing crazy money at guys with MEP backgrounds to build these but my company constantly is upping the bar on salary to keep their MEP guys. Life is good and best of luck.

Look into working for a data center owner as a rep to kick people like me around :-).

Would you mind sharing a little more information on this? I've been in the GC world going 15 years doing a lot of high profile and high stress jobs. Is the money good? Sure. Is my health or my sanity good? No. To be honest I'm burned out. I thought after this last summer rush, things would slow down, but they've only gotten crazier and we've been short staffed. I would definitely be interested in hearing more about this and the Commercial Insurance routes.

I made the switch into commercial insurance after a 10 year career in wholesale distribution and have been happy with the move. We're hiring in Houston (if you're local) and I'm happy to discuss my experience and the ins and outs of the industry.

Does anyone have connections to data center construction? I perform third party coating inspections, traditionally for pipeline but was at Samsung last 19 months prior to a recent layoff. Just trying to get back in with a data center if anyone has contacts.
