Anyone ever do fractional consulting for GLC?

Yes. Charge 250 per hour. I've done 20-25 of these over the years.

It's fun to do…the money doesn't get exciting bc there isn't enough quantity. Longest I've done was 90 minutes.

My buddy used to work for them. I typically ignore when I get the messages from them (and their competitors) but my buddy was like just ask for a high amount and see what they say.

Got paid $15K for a consulting project that was "follow up" work after a call.

My rate was around $350 an hour and it was fun for a while. Had one call though that the "client" only talked to me for 5 minutes and then said they had another meeting…

GLG paid me a whopping $35 for blocking an hour on my calendar.

Between the 20 or so calls that I've done, I would say less than 3 of the clients asked questions that were well researched / thoughtful. Most could have found the answer to their questions just as fast through google.

My takeaway is most of these calls are "check the box" to say they've spoken with experts to arrive at a decision / make an investment.
In reality, they have made up their mind on whatever decision is supposedly being evaluated before the call. They ask you questions that lead you into giving them info that supports their desired plan of action.

If you're trying to grow into a senior executive role, it's great practice for answering questions on the spot. Plus, learning how to give meaningful answers while not being too "in the weeds" with details.

To be fair, this is the majority of consulting.

The real money in this type of contract is to confuse the crap out of the 26 year old associate that has no idea what you are talking about. it is usually a bunch of brand new grads asking questions that have no relevance past surface-connection with the subject.

I registered with almost a dozen competitors in GLG's space. If you have deep experience, set your rate at $500/hour. You're being paid for your years of accrued knowledge. No need to prepare unless you need that to organize your thoughts. It's easy to fill a scheduled hour with discussion if you're thorough in your answers. Two of my consultations resulted in long-term agreements with client PE firms to support acquisition diligence. SME consulting has extended my post-retirement income, stay engaged in industry, and pay for my toys.

Curious which competitors, if you do not mind sharing.

I've worked with Alphasights successfully too.

Although incredibly similar I preferred GLG people that set the calls up.
