My dad just found out he's getting laid off for the second time in three years.
He was the Fire Chief/Emergency Response Coordinator for a refinery here in Beaumont. He was just let go due to a new company buying the refinery and eliminating the Fire Chief position. They say "they don't need one" due to the refinery not being that large of size.
He has been there going on 2 years because the refinery he was at for over 10+ years doing Fire, Safety & Emergency response, sold out to a private investment firm and went bankrupt and closed the gates to the refinery. So unfortunately for him he's been let go twice in two years due to companies switching hands and not due to any wrong doing himself.
He's great at the job and does the job with a ton of pride. He is truly passionate for what he does. He was a career Firefighter for 14 years with a local city until he took the leap to the industrial world. He was in plant operations for a few years before he moved into the Fire Chief role. He has started looking and applying for other roles in our area but since that is a very niche job, very few roles are available. He's the hardest working guy I know and extremely loyal, he's just gotten the shaft the last few years.
If anyone has any leads or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated! He's 49 years old and he's open to hearing about any potential roles any of you might suggest!
