My girlfriend is an ER doctor. She is on track to go to part time work in 20 years at the age of 62 and then fully retire in 23 to meet her retirement goals. We live in Charleston but she works at a hospital two hours inland where she make substantially more than she would here in town.

Has anyone transitioned out of the emergency department and what did you end up doing? Were you able to maintain your pay? She loves her job but it wears on her and she has expressed wanting to do something different. She just doesn't know what she can do to maintain her present income.

Not sure what a prehospital/EMS medical director makes but might be enough if combined with retirement income. Might be a nice change of pace from the ER grind.
