Quick search didn't turn anything up but I was wondering if anyone here has ever commissioned two leagues and just had a team in one of them?

My work league has always fluctuated between 12-14 people and it's been good but we have a couple new guys that want in and that pushes us up to 16.

As Commish, I can just tell everyone to suck it up and we play 16 or ask someone else to step up for the other 8-man league but didn't know if anyone knew of another way or even if the two leagues can be linked to where the champs of each league can play against each other for the one true title?

Couldn't you just set up:

(2) 8-team divisions where each set of 8 only plays each other and the champs of the 2 (after their own playoffs) play each other?

or

(4) 4-team divisions where you have (2) sets of two divisions that only face each other (sort of like (2) 8-team leagues in one).

Either way, you will probably have to manually set the schedule for the season to prevent cross-division play.

It may be a lot of work, but can be done within the same league.

Make a couple of the owners share a team, bringing it down to a manageable 14 teams. Also saves some waiver wire slack.

You're kinda stuck making it a 16-team league or trying the two division format like lunchbox suggested if that's even possible. Two different 8-man office leagues would be really lame.

ETA: If 16 teams... maybe you look at making it a Best Ball league since waiver wire will be a wasteland.

Maybe do 2 leagues and just get 4 guys to do 2 teams (10 team leagues)? Following year you can have a champions league and a newcomer/promotion league. Top half finishers from both sides play in champions league next year. Splits up the pool and makes it more balanced competitively going forward. Also solves any future entrant issues.

If you wanted to get cute you could probably have the champions from both leagues play each other in a championship game. Yeah some player overlaps will be possible but those will just cancel out.

I like where this is going. We got a few more guys to join up so we're at 20 total.

As another option, we can split into two 10-man leagues keeping the top 10 from last year's 14-man league in League A and putting the bottom four along with the six newcomers in League B and do a promotion/relegation if we get favorable input on that. If we lose people out of League A year over year we can just promote the next up from League B. Now I just need to figure out how to get the winners of the leagues to play each other in Yahoo. Does ESPN or NFL or any other app make this easier?

Would you suggest weighting the payouts to favor League A winner over League B? 20 guys buying in at $50 a pop leaves us with $1k to work with.

I think payout has to be the same for each league. Maybe set aside $100 for overall champion prize. Why would I pay $50 to subsidize the prize pool in a league I can't win?

RTsports can do two 8-12 team leagues that play for the title. I've done it for the past 15 years. Message me if you want to chat about it
