Got a question for you Ags. I'm looking to cut out cable and possibly doing a very basic internet tv package, but might even cut that too.

I guess my biggest fear is losing out on sports, especially our college football games. Any tips?

I've used Hulu Live and PS Vue and have been able to watch all the college football i did with Directv. Been very pleased with both systems. Eventually switched to Vue because I liked the interface a little better and it included MLB Network.

Watching the Astros on the otherhand.... goodluck.

T-Mobile had a free year of mlb.tv. Couple that with an IP masker and that's how I watch the Astros. Set the location to somewhere outside the state.

YouTube TV is great for the sports fan.

I always hear "Youtube TV is great for sports", and I still can't figure out where that claim came from. Sling, PS Vue, and DTV Now all seem to have just as many, if not more, sports channels than Youtube TV. Plus all 3 of those services offer WAY more outside of sports channels..

Isn't Vue a day behind?

Not sure what you mean. Playstation Vue is a live streaming TV service similar to Sling TV, YouTube TV, DirecTV Now, and others. Despite its name, it works on almost all streaming devices, including Roku and Apple TV.

Vue also has local fox sports channel. If it's not in the guide, you can use Fox Sports One app to watch your local teams. Unfortunately FS1 App is not available on PS4

Uhh...no. There's about a 10 second delay from what you'd get over cable vs. streaming (similar to satellite), but it's live.

I told DTV to suck it last fall (took a chance) and have been happy ever since. I get all of the same sports channels I had with DTV along with app access for my phone or tablet (could always run the PSVue app as well). Honestly, the only channel I don't have that I miss is ATT Sportsnet for Astros and Rockets. But for $90/mo savings, I can check the score on my phone.

PS Vue with the FireTV.

Have 1 mid tier sub and 3 FireTvs. Cut the cord ~2 years ago. It keeps getting better and better.

I moved from PS Vue to YouTubeTV for 2 big reasons.
1: The PS Vue DVR never and I mean not a single time got the full game in when I DVR'd a game.
2: The base package for PS Vue didn't have the SECN or FSSW.

I also moved a week before the latest price hike so I'm grandfathered in at $35/month and split that with my family. You get up to 6 family members on google who each get their own 5 simultaneous streams. My wife and I end up paying $11.67/month for 2 YouTubeTV accounts. We added GooglePlay Music (spotify alternative) that comes with YouTube Red (No YouTube commercials). All together we pay $16.67/month for YouTubeTV, Play Music, and YouTube Red. Not bad!

If you need a remote and DVR box style system, I also recommend going with Roku if you aren't an AppleTV person. I started with FireTV's but had to ditch them when we made the switch to YouTube since Amazon and YouTube are in a content fight. It's best to stick with a neutral system.

Maybe a dumb question, but if I cut the cord, do I need to upgrade my current router? I have an Airport Extreme from like 2012. According to my "About..." the wifi is listed as 802.11 a/b/g/n. No idea what the current one is nor is this is good enough.

What speed are you getting from your router near your TV? What speed are you paying for? New router or higher speed from your ISP may be required but maybe not.

My service is 200 down and I don't recall up. Getting 200 wired; 100 wireless near the TV. But I don't know if I'm staying with the same provider or, if so, the same service.

Between Playstation Vue, ESPN app and OTA HD antenna (preferred way to watch) I didn't miss any college games that I wanted to watch last season. If it is a broadcast channel (fox, NBC, ABC or CBS) I prefer the OTA HD antenna as it is not a compressed signal and the HD picture is just better than through any type of service.

I'm fairly certain OTA is also compressed.

It is, but OTA pictures are still better. There is not as much data loss in the OTA compression compared to cable or satellite.

Wtf tv package do you have to pay $350 a month for tv and internet?

I'd say keep your wired internet and just move over to YouTube tv for that side.

I cut the cord and cut YTTV several years ago. I used to get YTTV back just for the college football season, and then cancel. This year, I tried the ESPN/FOX Sports bundle. It sucks. The streaming quality of ESPN is worse than Pluto TV.

Not if you're an Astros and/or Rockets fan.

We got on Fubo TV for that but switched over YTTV in November due to Universal/NBC channels being cut while Fubo is negotiating with them on rates.
