Just pulled the trigger on the Formovie Theatre after plenty of research and this thing outperformed a lot of the more brand worthy models.

The media room in our house has no windows so I'm trying to talk myself out of needing to pay for an ALR screen. Since we can basically blackout the room by turning the lights off, I'm thinking a white screen will suffice.

However, this is my first experience with any type of projector, so I'm open for recs.

How big? Fixed, pull down, retractable? Acoustically transparent?

Don't get an ALR screen, that's for people who cannot blackout their rooms.

Even if you don't have windows you'll still get reflections off the walls from the screen itself. If you can paint them to get them darker you'll be great. Having said that, I've always used white screens with modern projectors and have used them in bright rooms as well as my current blackout room. Silver ticket screen off Amazon for the best bang for your buck...

Also highly suggest painting ceiling as well if you can and throw down some dark colored rugs if your floor color is bright.

Just bought an Epson LS800 myself with the Formovie Fresnel screen. But my room has a bunch of windows and will get a lot of day time use.

The Spectra Vantage is a very good screen, that's likely what I would have done in a light controlled screen. Strongly urge you to just email the people at projectorscreen.com, though, they are very helpful.

Edit: The screen isn't just for brightness. In fact, if you can control the light, I'd guess that you'll get better black levels and contrast from a lower-gain screen.

That's what I was curious about was the screen gain. The unit I ordered has 2800 ANSI lumens. With that said will I get better contrast and deeper blacks with a gray screen in lieu of white?

We have typical ceiling can lights in this room. We're going to paint the walls and ceilings a dark blue color before we do anything else.

I thought this video was a huge help:

Thanks, I'll give this video a watch later today.

Assuming you have a UST projector, what kind do you have and how have you liked it? I have a laundry list of movies I've been wanting to watch and definitely can't wait to watch some football on it.

Bought this for my media room a few years ago. Outstanding quality in build and picture.

STR-16992 Silver Ticket 4K Ultra... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DGVHZSA?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Also paint your walls dark with a matte finish.

I also bought some "acoustic curtains" from Amazon that I put over the doors so they don't reflect light and sound.

are you still liking that Formovie? and what screen did you wind up going with? I'm about to pull the trigger on a UST projector and probably a screen

Yes, loving the Formovie. The picture and sound are awesome. I still need to tweak with the picture a little, but I'll get it there.

I ended up just buying a screen on Amazon for $20. It's temporary for now and wouldn't recommend it. I'm excited to see what the image will look like on a somewhat quality screen. I'm just not going to dump thousands on a fabric screen. Would love the ALR screens though.
