How long do you want to ignore this user?

My almost-13 year old really wants to be able to listen to music on her phone. We use a Pinwheel phone so she has no access to internet or social media. But she is wants a music app to start building her own playlists, etc. She would really like to use Spotify, but there is way too much inappropriate content available on that platform (videos, audio books, podcasts, etc) for me to be comfortable with, and there aren't good parental control options that I'm aware of. I'm tempted to use Spotify Kids, but it seems like it may be pretty childish for someone her age.

So I'm looking for your recommendations on music apps that have decent content filters/parental controls. Any help is appreciated.

Go sportify premium and it unlocks a handful of parental controls. You can create child accounts and limit access to with explicit content filters, etc...

I don't think you are going to run into a "free" option out there unless you can just create a few playlists with her from MP3/AAC/etc...files.

While free is always best, I don't mind paying a reasonable fee.

In your experience, how effective are the content filters in Spotify Family? Can you create child accounts without using the Spotify Kids app?

Yes. You can create accounts for family members and set parental controls on the ones you set up for kids. It has worked well for us but I now have 17 year olds that are about to break into their own accounts (and pay for it!)

Biggest + is the parental controls for explicit content. And if I remember correctly, if there is an edited version of a song it will show that song vs. just not showing at all. Also the offline playlists are great for saving battery on their phones since they listen all the time!
