My wife wants a new computer. She has a MacBook Air that has really slowed down lately. She uses the computer for work and browsing the internet. She doesnt do any gaming. Is a refurbished MacBook worth exploring based on her needs?

We got my wife's from BestBuy as a refurb/open box. Saved a good amount and it has been a great computer. Does everything that she needs. Just make sure you are getting a new enough model that will be supported for the amount of time she plans on using it.

Probably depends on where you buy it from. If it's from the Apple refurbished site I'd say absolutely.

Bonus: products bought from apple's refurbished store qualify for AppleCare as well.

I would 100%buy refurbished from Apple or Dell as they both come with full warranty.

Best Buy has some nice discounts on brand new MacBooks right now. An M1 Air is $750 right now. Cheaper than the refurb by $100.

At this point the M1 is going on 2 generations back though, while it'll still be fine for everyday work I'd lean towards future proofing a bit with a newer model. Great deal if it fits your needs though.

Fair point, that was just the first one I did a quick compare on. Best Buy has most of their Macbooks on sale though. I just bought an M3 Pro Macbook Pro for $200 off myself!

A MacBook will definitely continue meeting her needs. Good call.

For sure, that's a great deal for someone needing an around the house laptop.

I really want a 14" M3 Pro, hopefully later in 2024.

I've bought a number of refurbished desktops and laptops. Here's where I buy most of my computers. I've always had excellent luck with them and on the couple of times there was an issue, they took care of it promptly. They also have a one year warranty on most things.

What did you end up doing? Still have her old one? Would like an old one for my kid to just use as a back up for his phone and way to move pics and music around.

Apple refurbished is the best because you can find configs other than the base. I just ordered my mother a refurbished midnight blue M2 MacBook Air 16GB RAM, 512GB Storage via military discount with Apple Care for less than $1500.
