My Yamaha RX-A1030 home theater receiver lost zone 2 audio in a storm back in September. I wanted to replace it with a receiver that had zone 2 with both audio and a second HDMI out like the 1030. I settled on the Onkyo TX-NR6100. I did not realize it until after the purchase that there is no way to adjust the tone on the zone 2 speakers which are out on the deck. The sound is very thin and tinny even with a pass through sub. I upgraded the speakers from 5 inch Yamahas to 5.25 inch Klipschs which helped slightly but not near enough. I am wondering if I use the zone 2 pre-out connection instead and go into a separate amplifier like the one linked below If I would have enough tone control to bring it up to snuff. I think I can drive the sub separately which might help the low end. If not the Onkyo is going back to Crutchfield.
