I've been asked to look into creating a new website for an Education Foundation we're starting. I've asked a local marketing firm and they're wanting more than we can currently afford to design and maintain.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations of website builder sites or independent designers they'd recommend? I've briefly looked at WIX but at first glance it appears to be more for small business.

TIA

I think Wix and Square Space have templates/pricing specifically for non-profits

for a nonprofit, I've used GoDaddy to reserve the domain name (relatively inexpensive) and then Wix.com to make the website (for free).

For basic and even intermediate websites they can be quite good. I have spun up several non-profit websites on Wix and my wife's business one is on Squarespace. They're both acceptable and pretty approachable on the WYSIWYG functionality. I prefer Wix over Square but it's pretty close.

I've built a couple of very simple websites using Google Sites templates. Once you have the domain and follow some steps on how to get it all set up and "live" the website editing and creation is very simple...similar to making a Google Slides presentation or even a Word document.

I used Squarespace to do ours and it was pretty easy. The content is the hard part. I would have looked into another service but we were already paying for and using Squarespace with our old (awful) website that someone else had created. Some of those services also have special deals for nonprofits, so you may look into that.

I also had someone recommend linknow.com to just do the whole thing for us. They have some more affordable packages, especially when you realize what Squarespace will charge you over time. No experience with them personally though.

I wouldn't put Wix aside. It has many advantages like a big collection of free templates for nonprofits and charity organizations, a simple-to-use drag-and-drop editor, additional non-profit apps, membership options, etc. And what is important, it is free.

Of course, there are other options. Here I recommend checking this article https://www.webbuildersguide.com/best-website-builder/nonprofit/ I read that Squarespace also has its own non-profit website templates. And I see that some people here have already mentioned it.
