Got the kids hand-me down-phones. Is there a way to insure them? We missed any window with Apple or t-mobile. Any recommendations?

Some credit unions (and credit cards i think) offer some type of repair/replacement coverage up to a limit.
I have Security Service credit union, who just increased this year to a max of $900 annually, max 2 claims:year. About to file a claim, so will see how the experience goes.
It's not 'free' but included with their power protected checking for $9/month (just found they include free telehealth visits and roadside assistance too).
But seems seems you can add insurance anytime with your carrier anytime, but is like $10-15/month.

All State Square trade may be an option for you.

Did you buy them from Apple direct or T-Mobile? If bought thru Apple or any other 3rd party, you can add BYOD insurance at any retail store. If you bought them through T-Mobile and it's been over 30 days, you will need to wait until they have open enrollment. We do it it about twice a year.

I didn't buy them. They were old phones given to us. we are on T-Mobile but it's been past 30 days.

If they were not originally purchased from tmobile, then try going to a store with them and tell them you want to add byod insurance. They will inspect them for any physical or water damage and add the byod insurance. Make sure they are already being used on the tmboile network.

probably not worth insuring "old" hand-me-down phones to be honest.

Maybe. But I don't want to pay to replace a phone that gets stolen out of my kid's backpack at school.

There's going to be a monthly or lump cost and deductible (in most cases).

If the phone is only worth a couple hundred bucks, that would make the insurance a low (or possibly negative) value proposition

Check your credit cards. We have AMEX and if you pay the phone bill with the card it's insured.

Agreed. Great service. There is still a deductible though.

Stupid T-mobile doesn't allow auto-pay with credit cards so I can't use that perk anymore.
