Hi all.

I have a Nighthawk CAX30 AX2700 modem router combo for the last few weeks will randomly not allow my devices to connect to its WiFi.

Last night, it happened again. I rebooted it -- no luck. Then, I tried the hard reset and proceeded to set it up again. When I set up a generic Network SSID, the devices connected. BUT -- when I went into the router system to change the SSID for both the 2g and 5g -- making them the same as the old network name, some would connect, and others would not -- saying there was an IP configuration failure.

I tried this several times. The same thing happened each time after reset -- change the SSID to the old SSID -- and some devices connect, some will not. During the setup, I'm not able to put in the old SSID names right off the bat and make it work. I've tried through the Netgear Nighthawk app and manually through an ethernet connection.

I don't want to rename my network entirely, and therefore have to reconnect all my devices to that network.

Right now, I've dropped back to my old Netgear AC1750 so my family can stay connected -- but there is a noticeable loss in performance.

As I said, the Nighthawk has had some of these issues of randomly dropping devices over the last few months. So -- here are my questions:

1. How long should these router-modem combos last?
2. Is it possible it is failing?
3. If it is failing -- what would be your recommendation as an upgrade?
4. My house is about 2200 sq feet, so is mesh even worth considering? The modem-router was getting good coverage around the house.

Thanks all!

Have you checked to see if there is a firmware update you can install?

Not that its terribly helpful, but this is one of the reasons that I don't like the modem/wifi combo units.

There is no firmware update.

You might check on the new router that the size (range) of DHCP addresses for your internal network isn't too small? Maybe it's only set to 20 but you have more devices?
