Weird TV/power issue I can't figure out

I have a newish (about a year old) 65" Vizio OLED installed on the wall in our upstairs loft/game room with an AppleTV and Sonos soundbar attached, great set overall and have had zero issues till recently.

About two months ago the set wouldn't power up from the AppleTV remote like it always does, I could see the AppleTV was responding to the remote but the none of Apple remote, Vizio remote, or power button on the back of the tv could get the TV to respond. I reset the breaker for that room (which wasn't tripped) and it powered up and responded just fine. After that it was working normally and I just chalked it up a power surge.

Have had no other problems till just a few days ago but this behavior has now repeated two or three times this week and resetting the breaker for that room fixes it each time. Any ideas on what the issue might be, what to look for, if I need to call an electrician, if it's a TV problem, etc.? Thanks!

Man I hate to tell you this but that is an issue with that TV.

I owned the Vizio OLED 55 for about a year and over that time the TV would never power on unless I pulled the power plug first. I eventually got so fed up with Vizio not fixing this issue and the fact that most of the advertised gaming features the TV was supposed to come with didn't work that I convinced Best Buy to take it back about 11 months outside of my return window. There is a thread on AVS Forums and Vizio's SubReddit that detail that this problem was widespread and last I looked Vizio still hadn't fixed it.

After Best Buy took the TV back way out of warranty I replaced it with an LG CX and it has been everything I wanted from the original Vizio purchase. To say that I will never buy another Vizio product would be an understatement after that ordeal.

Ugh, not what I wanted to hear but good to know. I'm at like 11 months so might still be inside the return window, ordered it from Walmart so I'll have to look into their policies. Appreciate the info.

If you cant return/warranty, check this place out:

I had a Sony Bravia from around Thanksgiving 2020 crap the bed and wouldn't turn on. I purchased a power supply board for it and popped it in and it worked like a charm. All you need is a screwdriver. It could be that a couple of the capacitors on the board are faulty.

Cost me 40 bucks + 10 shipping. There was even a package where it came with the all of the boards - main board, power supply, wireless, etc and it was like $150, but I concluded that it was likely the power supply since it just wouldnt turn on. Cheaper than buying a new TV.

Great info, thanks!

I'm outside the standard return window but inside the initial manufacturer's warranty, but I also feel like trying to return a big TV is going to be a massive pain. May feel out Walmart and see if there's any chance there.

Vizio could not have been less helpful during my 11 month struggle with that TV. They initially tried to deny it was a problem, even though I produced tons of posts of people experiencing it. Then they replaced the TV only to have the exact same power problems with the replacement. I elevated it to their corporate level to try and just get my money back and they continued to get the run around.

I was fortunate that a manager at Best Buy had sympathy for my situation. I did have video evidence of the problem occurring over and over again so I thin that helped.

I ALSO had a very bad experience with Vizio support. Long story short, the TV crapped out during the manufacturer warranty and through more than one half hearted repair attempts where the repairman never actually showed up, and one broken replacement tv... I went like 4 months without a working television in my living room.

Yeah, I'm worried that I may not get the same understanding from Walmart as you'd get at Best Buy on a tv issue, fingers crossed.

Always buy your high end tech/appliances stuff at Costco.

a lot of times they extend the manufacturer warranty and they are very lenient even if you are outside by a few months.

That's a good idea, got this from Walmart as I got a really good deal on it but will keep that in mind in the future.
