I'm looking to split my router so I can have part of it secured by a VPN and a good password, with part available as a "Guest" network. I suspect I will need to replace my existing router. I have 200 mb fiber. Currently using NordVPN on some of my devices. Any recommendations?

Take a look at the Asus AX86U. There are guides available for everything you want to do and I personally find configuration really easy with all Asus routers.

I've had that router for 2.5 years now and its the least problematic of any router I've had before.

I'm not following. Nord VPN is run on individual devices, not your router, unless they have kind of service and I just don't know about it. That should have no bearing on having a guest access wifi. What you are talking about would be handled with a standard Guest SSID for your wifi, or you would need to VLAN your network if you needed to offer your guests a hardwired connection. Those are still completely separate from your VPN clients on your devices.

You can setup a VPN at the router level too. I have this on my Unifi setup so that I can route a few devices through a vpn to avoid blackout restrictions during baseball season. It could be done by installing a vpn on the device too.

I have a traffic route setup to direct devices on a vlan to the vpn.

Not sure if the asus router supports this, but most of the unifi stuff does.
