How long do you want to ignore this user?
I am looking to sell a MacBook I have on Facebook Marketplace. A buyer contacted me and wanted to know a few details along with the serial number of my machine.

Assuming that I give him the right one and he disappears, is there any risk that I am taking on?

Im not sure what they can do with it, but I am sure I would not give mine out. If there is someway that someone can scam you, then someone in a marketplace has thought of it. To hard to tell these days what may come from it.

If he is just wanting to run it to see on the Apple site what is worth, just make a short vid of you putting in the number and letting it pull up all the info. You can easily edit out your number and still give them a piece of mind.

I looked up his FB profile. It is marked as "New", created in 2024.

And someone reviewed him so.

So now what I am curious about is how does the scam work? If I give him the SN, what happens next?

I just asked him what he needed it for.

Although you're looking to sell a MacBook, here's a great article that explains "Buying a second-hand MacBook: What to check?".

Maybe some of this information can ease your concerns.
